What would you think this bid means please?

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I was playing this evening with a group that plays strong club (19+) semi-strong diamond (16 - 18) and weak no trump.

The RH opponent opened 1H (13 - 15) and LH opponent raised to 2H (6 - 10). My partner bid 4NT....

What would you take this bid to mean please?

I am so sorry. I did not realize there was a separate forum for novice and beginners and posted here. I am not sure how to move it.

Thank you.

Hi Staxxx and welcome to the BBO forums. This would ordinarily be played as "unusual", meaning that your partner would hold both minor suits and be wanting you to bid 5 of your longer minor.

I agree with this.

Also, I expect partner to hold a strong hand and be bidding in the expectation of making 5m rather than as a sacrifice. (The opponents have not shown significant values, so no reason to sacrifice). With particularly good controls, you might jump to 6.

Thank you. It makes sense.

The bidding continued, 5C, P, 5D, P and I raised to 6D with four small diamonds and singleton heart. Partner was void in Spades with solid Diamonds and 4 good clubs (which matched my clubs) to make.
