IMPs, club standard opps, EW playing 5cM weak NT. Generally one wants to bid a lot when vul at IMPs but East didn't like her hearts while West didn't like his CQ. Who should've been bolder?

The opps found the game by luck - East had the DA in with her hearts...

East is worth a lot more than 2. With all those controls East is as near as damn it worth 4 immediately with a partner who has negative doubled a 2 level overcall vulnerable. 3 from East provides West with an opportunity to describe his hand further.

East is worth a lot more than 2. If I were East I would actually prefer my partner to play this hand so a 3 bid here on route to a possible 4 contract might provide that option. (On this hand, however, I believe that East will still end up as declarer though)

South overcalled at the two level. Why would you want North to be on lead?

Even if I invited with the E hand, not 100% sure I'd accept with the W hand.

I think this one is really quite difficult, and am actually not totally sure I want to be in it anyway, although with the 2 bid where it is I probably do. It's also not the simplest one to play.

Hi,

I am torn between East and Neither, I went with East, but seeing that neither

got basically nothing I regret it, Neither is an real LA.

West has made a Neg. X, which alread promises a little more than 6/7 HCP,

i.e. he has a min hand for his call.

On the other hand, what ever one claims, the neg. X did not 100% gurantees

a 4 card heart suit, i.e. requiring East to jump to 3H is ok, but you dont

have to do it.

I have no idea, how good the game is, esp. after a trump lead and continuation

you may find it difficullt to get your tricks, but I am not really good at analyzing

this kind of stuff.

With kind regards

Marlowe

3 from East provides West with an opportunity to describe his hand further.

That bid would be game forcing to most would it not? I think East is worth a 3 bid though. Worry about heart quality is misplaced when you will be leading towards whatever West owns through the overcaller.

Red at imps, I would auto raise to game with the West cards.

Over a TOX (or similar Xs like the one above) it is generally a good thing to give "the whole" of your hand because the X is not auto-forcing. So with 15 great HCPs (aces and potentially establishable Ss), E should probably bid 3H. The weak Hs is actually a good thing as trump honors now rate to be split between partner and South who showed some strength for his overcall (and partner sits after, so finesses will often work).

I would bid 2H with

KQxxx

QJxx

Qx

Kx

Now after the jump, not sure W would add the 4th all the time, but red at IMPs...

West has done more than enough by making an aggressive negative double. East has seriously underbid the hand by bidding 2 . IMO, East's proper bid is 3 .. That shows the value of the hand and leaves room for further action or exploration by West. West's hand at this point is still unlimited, so the extra room may be vital should West have more than was actually held.

At IMPs, West just carries on to 4 after 3 .
