manudude03
Free all day tourney (IMPs) [hv=http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?sn=Robot&s=S752HKT6DACAQJ632&wn=Robot&w=SJ98HAQDJ96CK8754&nn=manudude03&n=SAK63HJ94DKT872C9&en=Robot&e=SQT4H87532DQ543CT&d=w&v=o&b=8&a=P1D(Minor%20suit%20opening%20--%203+%20%21D%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)P2C(Forcing%20two%20over%20one%20--%2011+%20HCP%3B%20biddable%20%21C%3B%20forcing%20to%203N)P2D(Opener%20rebids%20suit%20--%205+%20%21D%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%3B%20forcing%20to%203N)P3C(3-%20%21D%3B%2011+%20HCP%3B%20rebiddable%20%21C%3B%20forcing%20to%203N)P4C(3+%20%21C%3B%205+%20%21D%3B%2015-17%20total%20points)P4D(Cue%20bid%20--%203-%20%21D%3B%20rebiddable%20%21C%3B%20%21DA%3B%2017+%20total%20points)PPP&p=CTCAC8C9CQCKD2D3H2H6HQH4HAH9H8HTS9SAS4S2D7D4DAD9S5SJSKSQS3STS7S8H7HKD6HJC7D8H5C2DKD5C3DJS6H3C6C5DTDQCJC4]399|300[/hv] Before anyone asks, I was actually south here, but had to play this miserable contract. Maybe my bidding wasn't the best, but it seemed reasonable. I was not expecting a 4C bid on a stiff when there are clear alternatives and then I assumed my 4D bid (explained as a cuebid) wouldn't be passed....
The_Badger
I don't normally comment on robot hands these days, Wayne, because we all know that GIB has numerous 'idiosyncrasies' but what makes this horribly worse, in my view, is not the bidding (which isn't it's best) but the principle of using 2/1 and leaving you below a game contract. If it doesn't understand the basic principle of 2/1 is forcing to game then anything else is merely secondary.
nige1
This deal is a death-trap. Would 2 other experts handle it better than manudude03 and Gib? Gib exercised inspired judgement in passing before opponents started doubling. I'm sure Gib would never criticise, even when his partner's bidding justified murder. johnu
This deal is a death-trap. Would 2 other experts handle it better than manudude03 and Gib? Could 2 experts get to a better contract than 4♦ in a 5-1 fit with a bad 5 card suit? :D :P  I will just note that a lot of people like to play 3NT when there is no fit, especially in the minors. You can come up with your own continuations after the 1♦ - 2♣ start.

wbartley
I don't think GIB plays 1♦=2♣ as forcing to game in a minor but regardless, the failure to bid either 3♠ or 3NT over 3C is inexplicable. 3NT may not make but it certainly has a lot of play. I was about to reply the same thing you did but if you click on the yellow alert of 2♣ you will see it says " Forcing two over one--11+ hcp, biddable club, forcing to 3 NT http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif But yes it does not make gf in a minor. If it doesn't understand the basic principle of 2/1 is forcing to game then anything else is merely secondary. You are wrong. Read carefully. It never says in the alert of 2♣ = Game force. It says "forcing to 3 NT" which are quite 2 different terms.
iandayre
It is hard to fathom the convoluted logic that makes GIB choose 4C over the 1000% obvious 3S.
