Perfect Game

I played in a Robot Rebate 55% game tonight. It wound up being a heads-up game - there were only 2 players. Still, I think this is more than a little unusual:

ArtK78 Score: 100.00% Rank: 1/2 Won: $1.50 Masterpoints: 0.12

I won all 12 boards.

Easy.

Click on the link Artk78 gave where it says Rank:1/2 and when you go there on the upper left it says "show boards", click on it.

In case you're curious, perfect games happen about 2-3 times a day, almost always in 2-table games. It happens mostly in challenges: in the past week there were 17 perfect games; 7 were arena challenges, 4 were friend challenges. The rest were four 2-table Free Automated Fun tourneys, one 2-table robot duplicate, and your robot rebate. It's about 0.8% of all 2-table games, so congratulations, you're in the 1%!

In the past month, it only happened only 5 times with more than 2 tables: 2 instant tournaments (always 15 tables), a 3-table robot duplicate, and 3- and 4-table Free Automated Fun.

I only looked for 100% matchpoint games. There would presumably be more if I looked for IMP games where one player got the most IMPs on every board, but it will be a pretty expensive query so I'm not bothering.

I am surprised it is that common.

Based on pure probability, if the skill disparity is such that one player is a 70% favorite to win each individual board against the other player, the chance of winning all 12 boards is about 1.4%. And that doesn't take into consideration that many boards are totally flat, and even players with a wide skill disparity will push those boards.

Were these other games 12 boards in length? I have been 90+% over 6 boards in ACBL instant matchpoint games (15 tables), but never over the whole 12 boards.

When I restrict it to 12+ boards, it's much less common. It's happened 7 times in the past month, all 2-table robot rebates. But there have only been 321 2-table robot rebates in that time, so it's about 2% of those.

there's no such thing as totally flat. examine board 1. your opp doesn't seem to have a good grasp on stayman.

How can that happen with 15 tables? And twice in a month?

They both did it in the weekly free instant tourney, which you can play multiple times. So that's what they did -- they played it over and over until they got tops on all the boards.

So these obviously shouldn't count.
