runewell wins 69-41, thanks ntchai for a good match!

There is a regional all week next week in the town I live, so I might be all bridged out and ... wait for it ... vulnerable!

Wackojack 12 Driver733 2

Went down right to the wire, when I got incredibly lucky on B3. My weak 2opening inhibited East from making a take out double in 4th position. I cannot think why.

I guess the nice thing about playing head to head from the beginning is that if someone flakes it won't mess an entire round robin group.
KO and Swiss both have that advantage over Round-robin.

I like 64 board (or longer) matches but, as previously argued, I would prefer Swiss, Match-points, Best-hand:

  • Swiss avoids the frustration of early elimination and improves the final ranking order. Swiss is like KO with repêchage.
  • Match-points (or BAM) is a better test of skill than imps, in that a single board is less likely to decide a session or even the whole match.
  • Arguably, "Best-hand" is not really Bridge. Nevertheless, it's a better test of skill because human decisions carry more weight in deciding the outcome of a board..
