IMPs is not a good choice, since GIB is unable to bid reasonably. And if you combine IMPs with non-best hand, then you are constantly playing boring partscores for washes. At least playing MPs, you can make a difference on every board in your cardplay and playing best hand IMPs, you get a lot of games so more boards are interesting.

It doesn't change the total points in the partnership, it just puts the biggest hand south. What it does mean is that when there's a game, it's usually by NS rather than EW, unless the game is based on extreme distribution. I don't mind it. Sometimes best-hand feels like cheating, since it gives such a big clue about the HCP distributions during the bidding and play. It's nice trying to have real auctions where partner can be strong, too.

What it does mean is that when there's a game, it's usually by NS rather than EW, unless the game is based on extreme distribution. It does, since GIB is a timid bidder and he virtually always has a maximum for his bidding. So if you have the best hand at the table and partner is max for his bidding you will play more games. The most common is 1♠-1NT-2♥-4♥ -- usually this is 11 HCP and 5 hearts, which is fine, but I've frequently seem him do it with only 4. Or 1♠-1NT-2♠-4♠ -- this should be a limit raise with 3-card support, but he sometimes does it with just 2. Anyway, it's hard to please everyone, which is why we change formats for each event. But I think in most of the threads where we've discussed formats, the concensus has been that best hand is an adulturated form of bridge.

Hence it is percentage to make wild overcalls with very weak hands, which also leads to random results.

BTW, from the other thread I'm very pro the non-best hand setting and mildly pro-IMPs.

I really got caught speeding on S3 board 9, then lost track of the cards that had been played (I couldn't remember if the ♣K was good) so I went down 5 instead of 3, costing 8 IMPs.
