Thanks for any help.

My Windows 7 computer is down.

I tried to get on the BBO using this Linux computer

and failed. First of all Adobe Flash Player won't compile on the Linux Ubuntu-mate OS.

The BBO start screen won't even let me sign in.

 

Or am I doing something wrong!!!!!

Try using Google Chrome, it has a built-in Flash Player.

for instructions to enable flash on chromium or firefox browsers if you do not want to use chrome (i.e. if you insist on open source only software).

I can get an uptodate flash working on firefox, but I have not solved a font-size issue with regard to using firefox on Ubuntu to access BBO (since I have not heard of this issue from others, your luck may be better). I can use either chromium or chrome browsers to access BBO.

I use Fedora (and windows) instead of Ubuntu.

 

Flash player is available in 3rd party repository of Fedora. Just did a google search, it should be also available in Ubuntu 3rd party repository. Just google apt get flash you should see plenty clear instructions.

 

BTW make sure to install the flash firefox plugin as well, if in Ubuntu repository they are packaged like this.

Running PCLOS, old, old 32-bit (It works, OK?). I get a message that Flash is out of date but I get a button that lets me proceed anyway. Seems to work fine except when I tell Meckstroth to play a Spade or something on a hand. It's like he doesn't hear me screaming at him!

 

Thing is, he usually makes the Contract.

I too don't like the idea of running flash, so use chromium and no flash. When I do want flash I start firefox - just for that one trusted site - and close it down afterwards. It works. I know you can go to settings, plugins, and enable or disable flash, but will you forget to reset? Much easier to keep a program specific to the task.

Doesn't FF allow you to enable/disable it for specific sites? I thought that was the route all the browsers were going these days, since they can't feasibly remove Flash entirely yet.

Yes, you can, but it is fiddly. This is one way.

 

Setting global default :

click the three bars icon to get a "menu";

click "add-ons";

for shockwave flash, open dropdown, and select "never activate".

 

For a specific website such as bridgebase :

click the padlock, or the "i", in front of the web address;

click the "right chevron";

click "more information";

click the "permissions" icon;

for "adobe flash", click the "allow" radio button. (Shockwave being adobe)

 

That should allow someone to do it, but opening a different browser is easier. I prefer chromium anyway, being noticeably faster, and not freezing with multiple tabs.
