Cyberyeti
[hv=pc=n&s=skqjhat6dk432cj76&w=st863hq95dq7cak52&n=sa74h743dajt6ct93&e=s952hkj82d985cq84&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=pp1h1ndp(forcing%20to%20XX)pr2cdppp]399|300[/hv] E inquired about the pass and was told it was either intending to play 1Nxx or a non touching 2 suiter The vibe I picked up was that he didn't want to play 1Nx and seriously considered passing it out in 1Nx which would have generated 280 instead of the 300 we actually got (declarer took Q♣ off the table before playing hearts and we ducked twice). The 2♣ bid to me was either fielding a 3rd in psyche, or using UI if she'd picked up the same vibes I had, but in sorting it out, if you disallow the 2♣ bid, what happens now ? what E does if the auction goes XX P P back to him is not clear, is pass even a LA. Is the resolution any different if it's ruled as fielded psyche or use of UI ? My suspicion was that 300 was the most we were going to get so there wasn't much if any damage as E would do something if 1Nxx came back to him. weejonnie
The EBU have 3 levels of psyches: green (no problem, no correction); amber (some doubt, no correction for 1st amber psyche); red (fielded) EBU White book After the board is completed the TD may judge a psyche or deviation is red. If their opponents have a 60% score or better, or have gained 3 IMPs or more, the result stands unchanged. Otherwise, the result is cancelled, and the board re-scored as average plus to the opponents, average minus to the pair. Normally this translates as 3 IMPs, or 60%/40%. If it is a red psyche then an additional procedural penalty will be applied. Normally it will be the minimum standard though a TD may increase this. In a Victory Point event, the normal penalty is 0.5 VP. Otherwise it is 10% or 2 IMPs, so the board is generally scored as 60%/30% or 5 IMPs. See also §2.8.3.3. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (end of WB)You can always ask any board to be recorded - to do so does not cast aspertions on anyone's ethics. With regards to UI - fielding a psyche isn't UI. If West does have UI (e.g. from East's hesitation/ demeanour etc) then you have to look at the situation - in any case the table contract is played out. If NS feel they are damaged (and they should have advised EW of any concerns they had about UI at the time, to make life easier), then they call the director. The director has to ascertain what the UI was and whether it demonstrably suggested bidding clubs over e.g. hearts or no trumps. If it didn't then the table result is as noted in the first paragraph. If it did then the director has to work out what would have happened after e.g. a 2NT or 3 Heart response - which would be worse for EW. (NB If NS get 90% on the board, but would have got 100% without the UI, then they have been damaged.) Note that if there is UI AND a red psyche and NS get a 'top', there is nothing to stop the final result being NS +100% EW -10%. (The director can increase the procedural penalty either for the psyche or the abuse of UI - some on this site would fine EW 100% of a top, if they felt there was gross misuse of UI.)
