Defence to Michaels

We have had one or 2 problems with opps making a Micheals cue bid.

I am interested how others handle this. In particular, how do you set up a forcing pass situation if the opps bis at the 4/5 level.

As what do you play these bids:

1H (2H )

4H

2S/3S

3C/D

4m

3NT

etc.

Which of these sets up a fp situation if next opp bids 4S?

Bear in mind also that we play a big C system, so the 1H opening is limited to 10-15, this may have a bearing on the following auction.

Gerben - thanks, I have noted your responses from rgb

1H (2H ) ?

  • Direct Heart Raises
    • 4H - does not set up a forcing pass
    • 3H = preemptive raise, does not setup forcing pass
    • 2NT - constructive raise, sets up forcing pass if they bid 3 of minor but not if they bid above 3
    • 4m = fit jump, sets up forcing pass
    • 2S - Game force, with heart fit, does set up forcing pass
    • 3S = Splinter Raise, does set up forcing pass

    [*] Non-Raises

    • DBL = willingness to double one of their suits, sets up forcing pass
    • 3C/D = round force, natural (if their minor is undefined), tends to denies fit, but if we later bid 4, forcing pass in effect
    • 3NT = to play, forcing pass in effect.

I play 2 GF wich sets a forcing pass, while bids at the 3 level are transfer:

2NT transfer to 3, either weak or strong, or with support

3 transfer to 3, either weak or strong, or with support

3 transfer to 3, its weak or very strong.

3 'transfer to cue' so its limit.

Rest are as Ben said.

Agree with Ben except I don't think the fit jump should set up a FP. Also 2N is natural and 3H is constructive unless you have an agreement (I like the agreement that 2N is a raise though, with a natural 2N bid you can just X).
