helene_t
1♣ followed by 6♠. If partner passes this we might lose 7 so it is a reasonable alternative to open 2♣ followed by 2♠, then 7♣. However, we might not get a change to make a forcing spade (or club) bid in the second round, and besides 7 does not always make.

wanoff
7♠ It's either cold or close and no way of finding out. There may be a Lightner to beat it but hopefully they won't find it.

mycroft
Heh. Massively offtopic, but possibly meaner: In the local afternoon game yesterday, you pick up, in fourth seat:[hv=pc=n&w=skjt7532hdcqjt964&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1c1h3d(preemptive)]133|200[/hv] Your go... Fun to hear of two of these on the same day, thousands of miles apart!

Of course, I really know the exact answer to this hand about six years ago.For this hand with unlucky abnormal distributions, you will always get a failed result for your any suit game or slam contract. Now I would better take several examples. gszes
If I had to choose a final contract with this hand w/o the benefit of bidding (IMPS) I would go for 6c as probably a safer overall contract. With that thought in mind, it seems we should try to use our bidding space to give p as much a chance at participation as possible. I would opt for 2c followed by 2s and ending up probably bidding 6c. If p feels compelled to bid 6s (unless 6c is x) I will feel confident enough to bid 7s. Hopefully p will not feel compelled to take a preference with a singleton spade and a club void. It just seems too dangerous at IMPS to take a chance on a 1 level opening bid and miss out on not just vul game but probable small and maybe grand slam bonus.
