Recommended Posts

I did not know where to post this but Csaba (Gwnn) is comingg to USA and will visit me in Houston around February the 16th.

He will stay at my place and we are planning to have fun and play ACBL club bridge that I did not play for decades.

We will see. I will post some pics here.http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Not sure if he will like our worldwide famous "Budweiser" though! But any beer that is won by the beer card taste good!http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif

No problem at all with shitty-tasting beer. If I were going for taste, I'd get a champagne.

Csaba if you come to the left coast the same offer is open. You can even crash at my place.

I will, just not now! I'll be at a conference in New Orleans LA (any tips there BTW? I don't like jazz too much.) and will have a few days to spare after it so I thought what is close to Louisiana.

Are there any American beers that count as "well-crafted" after having lived in Germany? If he were going for the beer I suspect he would be coming to visit me in Bavaria instead! ;)

Living in America for my entire 58 years and having visited Germany a few times, I'd say NO!

FWIW, I think that the good American beers are easily as good as what you find over in Germany these days.

Between the consolidation in the German beer industry and the rise of America micro breweries, there has been a true sea change.

And do look me up if you find yourself in/around Boston....

I canceled my Spring NABC there in 2014 when I had my back surgery. NO is one of the few regular NABC stops that I have not been to. I also canceled my trip there in '09.

Others can opine, and I'm sure you'll get a lot of great tips.

Houston! Armpit of Texas, of course!

(In all seriousness, you and Timu should head up to Austin)

Austin? No

But I may drive him to Laredo or El Paso area where they take truckers illegally into Juarez with a shuttle for 20$ for an awesome party night. Only issue is, some of the folks who were in that shuttle, never show up anywhere on earth again. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Casaba! Here are some Texas rules that you may find it useful. These are not my personal opinions but these are common believes and dominant culture here in Texas! http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif

I was mostly just joking about beers. Although I like some good Belgian tasty stuff and can tell them from Heineken, I am not one of the people who find lagers (even very watery ones) disgusting. I know next to nothing about champagnes.

Np, I will have a poster tube to defend myself.

Once, at 9am in the morning, me half asleep, in Schiphol Airport, a security guy stopped me sternly "sir, bazookas are not allowed as carry on luggage." when I was carrying one of these (he winked and started giggling after a second). Weirdo.

So passengers aren't allowed to joke about having a weapon, but it's OK for security guards? Unfair!

I think this thread is veering quickly into WC material.

Give Jazz another chance. Hearing it live may give you a new perspective.

New Orleans tips collected on my Mardi Gras trip last year -

Music - Dueling pianos at Pat O'Briens, also Ticklers and Spririts on Bourbon street. Also, Frenchmen Street, about 3/4 mile northeast of the French Quarter, is a less touristy area filled with nightclubs with live music.

Food - Too many great places to name. Check out Yelp. One dish that more than met the hype was Death by Gumbo (stuffed quail) at Restaurant R'evolution.

Yelp is a nasty little protection racket masquerading as a social network
