ggwhiz
What about those that play limited splinters, say 9-12? If opener moves on expecting those 4 points to be somewhere else they will be disappointed perhaps hoping to find the ♣A in a red suit and when it isn't, the 5-level may be in danger. I think that most people do play splinters as less than the strength required for a forcing raise, whether based on HCP or controls. If you use controls, you can have 7 HCP. Anyway the points should be in aces and kings; the queens and jacks are not going to help with the thin slams. Thus the hand in the OP is too quacky to be considered as a splinter anyway. Jinksy
But he thinks that this somehow makes a case for splintering with a stiff Ace. No, you apparently think that makes a case for bidding a Jacoby 2N. So we agree the hand type you raised is irrelevant - now why not read what I actually wrote about the cases that matter instead of getting defensive about your obvious omission to do so the first time?
