Declarer played well, salvaging 11 tricks for -200, but can you do even better? Lead is SK. When/if you lead SJ from hand, South ducks (twice). ahydra
manudude03
I'll try win ace, heart ruff, jack of spades (ducked), ruff a spade high, heart ruff, AQ of clubs. Not sure I'm still alive after all that, but I hope East has Kxx. If clubs are 4-1, then I need the king of hearts to fall on the ace to allow for the trump coup. rhm
Would be nice to know what East DBL of 4NT showed. Having no information I play him for the remaining non spade honors. To make this contract, you need West not having 5 spades, since you have only 2 spade discards in dummy since the fourth diamond will not stand up T1: Win ♠A. T2: ♥A, spade discardT3: ♥ ruffT4: ♠J ducked. T5: spade ruff highT6: ♣ finesse . T7: ♦K T8: heart ruff (I am down if East has 5 hearts and West can overruff, but I deem it more likely East has length in clubs for his doubles)T9: ♦AT10: ♦ruff or overruffT11: exit with the spade ten The layout could be something like [hv=pc=n&s=sjt872hdqjcaqj853&w=skq96h9753d97432&n=sahaq8642dak85c94&e=s543hkjtdt6ckt762]399|300[/hv] Rainer Herrmann
ahydra
Well done that man Rainer. The layout was pretty much as he said save for the C2 being swapped for one of West's small hearts. The main point is, you need to spot the trump coup immediately and hence ruff a heart while in dummy at trick 1. You then have to overtake both diamonds to generate enough dummy entries. At the table declarer started with a diamond to the Q and then SJ and ruffed S10. In the endgame she hoped for diamonds 4-3 but no such luck; she endplayed herself in trumps for one off. ahydra
