Play problem from free daily tourney - MP

Recommended Posts

I was surprised about the number of people who went down in this one - decided to share the board.

Lead is CQ,

Scoring is MP.

Plan the play - in the case opps are GIB, but it should not matter much.

Why are you surprised? If someone is over ruffing 4th from doubleton hearts you go down.

If you take finesse you could perhaps make, but then you go down when it is off and losing 3 black tricks + a trump.

Assume you played for spade ruffs, you can also go down when 3 trump holder over ruffs 4th spade with 8 of and they cash 2 clubs and play 4th club one of them ruffing with J or Q and they get a trump promo.

My guess. Duck Q lead (key-play). Win continuation with A. Cash KA (both follow low?), ruff a . Cash A and ruff a.

- If Q has dropped, then you can succeed against some 4-1 trump breaks: Cash J discarding a . Whatever defenders do, you can cash a top trump and ruff a later.

- If Q hasn't dropped, then lead 4th .

- if LHO discards, then ruff in dummy.

- If LHO covers or ruffs, then discard a (loser-on-loser) hoping to ruff a later.
