Free press

It is interesting that much of the attention re civil rights and so forth in other countries rests on the appalled noting of the control of the "free press". The right of the media to report on what is going on is generally considered to be one of the cornerstones of a democratic society, at least in my understanding. How, then, do we get this sort of thing happening in the US? And where is the media coverage of the whole ongoing situation and of this event in particular?

The media folks are busy ensuring that their CEOs are happy with the revenue and profit growth for their news-media corporation. The US form of Capitalism needs to be fed, clothed, and be given lavish mansions so that it can remain true to its roots.

Well the judge threw out all charges today against her, although it seems that others ( the perceived leaders, most of them native women) who were equally innocent of inciting to riot were still waiting for their cases to be brought before the judge when she and her lawyers made a statement to the waiting crowd. The bulldozers ripped through part of a traditional burial ground before they were stopped. The Feds had put out a statement that they will be meeting with the leaders ( in jail?) to try to resolve things, but apparently the pipeline company decided to proceed without waiting. Jill Stein was apparently also arrested but no further word as to what happened with that. I think she spray painted something on the front of a bulldozer blade.

Its ironic that the land they were forced onto as land the government would never want, the government now wants. History repeating itself....
