1CL - 2SP - p - ?[/hv]

BIL tourney. Another vul overcall situation. I am responder now. I think long then pass. I was thinking: If p doesnt have a 1-level overcall he does not have much besides spades so we wont burn a vul game- but then again there is no need to preempt further. How would you bid and why?

When V vs NV, Ximps, 10 s together and partner jumping to 2-level, I think it's an obligated 4 bid immediatly. If you're not sure, you can still invite, but pass is out of the question imo.

How do I invite? 3 spades is just further preempt, right? I think 2NT would be natural with no agreement?

3 is most known as invite, cuebid the opener's suit.

With my f2f partner I play transfer advances, where 3 is invite with fit...

Vul vs not this isn't a great jump overcall. I know a lot of good pairs that play them intermediate at these colors.

If you accept that 2S is ok with this hand, you should also accept that KJT - 7th without the AH is OK.

I would only raise to 3. On 90 percent of the 2S overcalls 4 won't have a play and we could well have issues in 3.

My ODR isn't good, so the total tricks is probably off. Take away the minor quacks and give me a stiff and its 4S call.

Over a wjo, I play the same as over a weak 2 opener (except for a cue).

2NT would be either Ogust or feature ask, whatever you use over an opener.

I would bid 2NT to find out whether overcaller has a max (about 9-11 hcp, 7 losers or so, at these colors), or a dead minimum.

If he has a max hand, 4S should be a good bet at XIMPS.

I agree wholeheartedly with the 2 overcall, you are at unfavorable. As for south: Looking at two top honors in you know that

* You have no spade losers

* You have a 10-card fit, which is huge

* Partner must have something good on the side or he has lost his mind at this vuln.

My bid: 2NT ask for something and bid 4 after that (with reg. pd 2NT asks for singleton).

P.S. I play intermediate at this colours but WJO was the agreement stated for this pair.
