Zelandakh
You are playing 2/1 with semi-constructive raises (1M - 2M shows 7+) and pick up the following hand at Game All. [hv=pc=n&s=st32h9dt98765432c&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1sp]266|400[/hv] Partner deals and opens 1♠, passed to you. What would you do now? (NB: please do not spoil the thread if you recognise the hand!) Cyberyeti
At the table I suspect I'd pass then come back in later.

hrothgar
Forcing NT, followed by diamond bids...Lots and lots of diamond bids
Jinksy
I pass, because I am a craven in constructive auctions. I kind of like Hrothgar's bid, but I'm going to get upset when it goes 1♠ P 1N 4♥ / X P ..?
The_Badger
Psyche a 2♥, planning to pass the 4♦ splinter raise? hi helene t, Love the psyche idea, but I'm sure the late great John Collings if he was asked for a Bols Bridge Tip would say something along the lines of "Psyche your opponents, but never your partner!" [ I do recognise that your post may be tongue-in-cheek :) ] I think the danger here is that partner is strong and by bidding immediately you will encourage him. If he is strong he's probably got enough to come back in, even vulnerable. West has seen his partner pass and is balancing, not competing as yet. If he's got a good hand, he's likely to Dbl then bid his suit. As for 1NT forcing, that could show a variety of hands except this one, I feel. A 1♠ - 2♠ raise is usually constructive nowadays, and this hand doesn't fit the bill. So I'm passing (reluctantly) now and hope to bid later. neilkaz
Does anyone play a jump to 3♦ when not in comp. as a weak jump shift anymore? Yeah that should deny ♠ support, but you do have 9♦!
The_Badger
2♠. (8 total points. :)) hi nullve, Just as a bit of fun I put ♠1032 ♥9 ♦1098765432 into Kaplan & Rubens hand evaluator and it came out at 7.30.
rmnka447
Pass! I think anything you bid now is more likely to get you into trouble than not. Partner will never be able scope out that you bid on 0 HCP. At red pockets, that can be disastrous. If things develop where you can find a bid later, then partner won't expect much out of your hand. hrothgar
Few quick comments 1. This hand has way to much offense to pass2. This hand rates to be worth 7 tricks in diamonds and, at most, three tricks in spades3. A forcing NT followed by a diamond bid doesn't promise significant defense. Partner shouldn't hang you. I think that 1NT followed by showing the diamond suit over most rebids is absolutely clear cut
Zelandakh
I nearly forgot all about this thread. The reason for it was as a follow-on from Hand 2 in this one, which featured a suggestion for polling. I was reasonably confident the majority of BBFers would want to bid rather than pass despite the "threat" of a director call.
