P_Marlowe
Hi, if you want to make a move, it is 4D. I would go with Pass. With kind regardsMarlowe
alok c
Preempts particularly major suit preempts work. For making a ♦ slam, you atleast require ♥K & ♣Q {assuming preempter is having the ♠A} easy ♦distribution. So after 4♦ bid, partner will naver be able to show those features & only can raise into 5♦ & then it will be a gamble to bid slam.In that case it is better to bid 5♦ to give partner a chice to bid slam depending upon his hand & judgement. On the other hand slam in♣ requires 4 carder ♣Q & easy ♣distribution. Now it is a choice between pass,5♦ & 4♣.Difficult hand to bid,my choice will be 4♣-still a gamble :(
Zelandakh
{assuming preempter is having the ♠A}Why would you assume this? Is KQJxxxx not a perfectly sound preempt? At these colours QJ9xxxx would hardly be a surprise and against a BBFer the suit might well be worse. Now it is a choice between pass,5♦ & 4♣.Difficult hand to bid,my choice will be 4♣-still a gamble :(4♣ is not only a gamble but shows a completely different hand. This logic is like having 13hcp in a 4513 hand and deciding to open 1♣ or 1♠ because you do not like the rebid options after 1♥.
SteveMoe
I would try 4♦, but hope to settle in 4N if partner does not cooperate. Likely we have 2 major suit losers (maybe 3) in NT. Even with partner holding ♠AK, we will still struggle for a safe 12th trick in ♦.
