Wackojack
I am interested but need to be educated. Is the format 2 tables You and 3 robots v opp and 3 robots. Also can one play with the old installed BBO? I much prefer this to the web based BBO. Thanks
broze
You don't have to play them all at once. And you don't have to "meet up", you can each play them at a time that's convenient to you. Yeah, It's annoying that you can't start until your opponent accepts. Nevertheless I think 64 boards is way too long - particularly for the early rounds. Difficult to fit this in (at least for me) if you're playing a round a week. If it was a v. serious tournament I would support longer rounds but feel it is unnecessary for the purpose. gordontd
I voted for non-best-hand because it removes one of the ways to take advantage of the special robot format. I dislike best hand too, not only for that reason but also because I find it boring having so many 1NT openers and almost never defending. barmar
I am interested but need to be educated. Is the format 2 tables You and 3 robots v opp and 3 robots. Yes. Just like Robot Duplicate tournaments, except it's just 2 tables. Also can one play with the old installed BBO? I much prefer this to the web based BBO. No. Challenges are only supported in the web and mobile apps.

Difficult to fit this in (at least for me) if you're playing a round a week.It took me less than an hour for each 16-board segment of my matches. I estimate the total time I spent was 2-3 hours/week. But maybe that's why I lost. :)

smerriman
A few people posted comments without specifically mentioning they wanted to play, but assuming they all (except 1eyedjack) do, we currently have 19 players: smerrimanPhilVampyrbrozediana_evashyamshrothgarphoenix214nullvezebutinbarmarolegruWackojackgordontdeagles123nekthenjeffford76nige1manudude03 There have been 25 poll entries but I can't see who, so if you voted but haven't posted, make sure you do so :) Will leave things open for people to join until after the weekend. It looks like the format is going to be 32-board IMPs without best hand set.

Maybe the final could be 64 boards?
smerriman
Yep, sounds like a good idea for the final (and maybe semis) if the participants are keen.

smerriman
Awesome - that makes an even number which avoids anyone needing a bye. I'll post the first round matchups tonight - allowing one last call for late entries.

smerriman
In the web version, click on Challenges, Challenge a friend, and enter the other person's name. The challenge will show up on your screen as yellow; once they've accepted the challenge it will turn green and you'll have 16 boards to play. Repeat once when complete. I find it highly amusing that I got paired against Barry (we used to play at the same bridge club and have been team mates in the past)

On my iPad app it is not obvious how to do this. EDIT no maybe I can do it. I assume that in the early rounds we are not playing the same set of hands? But anyway could a kibitzer watch the first player and give information to the second player?

But anyway could a kibitzer watch the first player and give information to the second player? That's correct, each challenge gets its own set of hands. So this will be true in all rounds. As for cheating by kibitzing, the same thing can happen in regular tournaments, main bridge club, etc. No one has ever claimed that cheating is hard on BBO.
