Deanrover
Lots of tournaments and team games are very friendly affairs. It is thus rather frustrating when you are unable to converse with other BBO users, or other participants in the competition. Could you please provide an option for the tourney creator to allow chat with players?
Walddk
I am against that option. As long as cheating seems to be part of the game for some, there is absolutely no need to create a new loophole. Roland
uday
The TD can always chat to players. The TD can also enable chat-->tourney. Did you mean to allow private chat between people at the two tables?
Dwingo
Lots of tournaments and team games are very friendly affairs I beg to disagree. Team Matches and Tournaments are the only events with semblance of serious play. So, please, please no private chat with players in these 2 forms of the Game. Godwin I think the default should be for no chat with players to be allowed. But the tourney creator would have the option to allow it. Most nights there are at least a couple of "Brits junior" tournaments, which are friendly affairs with only 3 or 4 tables. Lots of us are friends in real life or went to high school with each other and have fallen out of contact, we like to chat with each other and find it frustrating that we can't. No one is concerned about potential cheating, and if someone really did want to cheat they could just use the phone as we all know each other in real life. DrTodd13
For those tournaments where all the tables are kept in synch in terms of the round number, I think that chat should be allowed to players once they have finished with the current round. I'll sometimes watch a friend and they'll finish a round and I'll want to ask them a question but I can't. If it is impossible that I've seen a later hand of the tournament, then there is no reason I shouldn't be able to talk to them at that point. There are so many ways to cheat to start with, I don't think it is a bad idea to provide an option to allow players to chat to their friends while they are in a tournament. Serious tournaments can still exclude chat...what is the harm of this option? Todd
uday
Agree, we should provide a mechanism for host to decide this. I dont know if FG will agree, or when he'll get around to doing this, though.
fred
I do agree with Dean that the TD should have the option to allow chat to players in his tourney. I also like Dr. Todd's suggestion a lot. I suspect that both of these changes will eventually be included as part of a future version, but as usual I cannot really predict when that will be. If either of features was easy to implement I would do so immediately. Fred GitelmanBridge Base Inc.www.bridgebase.com
csdenmark
When I log into BBO I am very often greeted by a friend playing in a tourney. I have no rights for a simple response to that - very bad I think. I have no intensions to watch that tourney. I am not interested of it. I am interested to greet my friends and nothing else. Due to I dont want to exclude myself from chatting with friends I never play tourneys at all.

You can play seriously in the Main Bridge Club too, and not serious in a tournament. Agree with Dr. Todds option. I also am often greeted by someone in a tourney, or I am kibitzing them and I cannot say anything to them after the hand is done.

I have no rights for a simple response to that - very bad I think. It seems to me that at the very least, a player in a tournament who cannot receive chat, but sends a message, should get an automated response from the system letting the person know that no reply can be received. Dwingo
There are 2 issues here 1) Private chat between partners while playing a tourney2) Private chat between kibitzer or someone in Lobby with a player in tourney On Issue 1, I wish that the chat between the partners is allowed, during a certain time window, when you finish the round early and you are waiting for 2 or 3 minutes before nextround. I see 2 benefits. You can discuss partnership problems in private without opponents or kibitzers knowing about it. It allows partnerships to chat in their native language without offending the others at the Table. On Issue 2, I usually do not greet my friends when I am playing in a tourney when they log in. I know I can't get to see their replies, so why bother. After all I am also in their friend's list and they can very see that I am playing in Tourney. However there is a point that people may want to get in touch with you urgently when you are online. They offcourse can leave a message for you even when you are playing a tourney. However you don't get to see these mail messages until the next time you log in. If only there was a way to empty the mail box contents to the chat bar as private messages, in between the rounds, it will help respond to these greetings/ messages while waiting for Round change. Resaz0
Hi all, I hope the new feature Fred and Uday mentioned will come soon, and I hope it will be added on team matchse too, and not only in tournements. I am not playing serious bridge, unfortunately, and I do not want to create problems to people who are doing it. But I think that in BBO is big now and there is a lot of room for everybody: serious bridge payers will easily find the right tournemnts and team matchse for them. Have a nice day Patrizia
