Phil
3H. This is a dangerous place to x since if diamonds are 54 since we don't have a quick heart entry to play a 2nd trump. I assume the first x is more cards, and not necessarily penalty seeking.
rmnka447
3 ♦ isn't exactly showing much. Red vs. white I think you've got keep on track to find your game if it's there. So I'm bidding 3 ♥ to show my stopper and let partner make the next move.

If RHO is 2-1 in the red suits, 3♦ may not play well. If partner has more than 10 cards in the black suits, I hope he'll find a bid.3♥ = Stop. I have a singleton in partner's suit and 8 cards in RHO's suits. LHO and partner share 16-19 black cards. We might make a spade contract but bad breaks could hamper us. wank
in normal circumstances, no. i've no idea how many diamonds they have. but they're quite sporting, so i'd smack it on the assumption that if they're close to making 3, they'd be in 5.
WesleyC
I think double is auto, but I play it as values oriented rather than penalties.
Fluffy
http://www.eurobridg...rd=005.01..1210 Me and D. Bakhshi faced the same situation, and both went wrong by bidding 3♥.By the time partner bid 3NT I already realiced I had made a mistake. Partner has a diamond stopper, and when East made a wrong lead it turned out to be a double stopper... so what?, there is no chance to score a single heart trick before they stablish running diamonds, the contract is hopeless. I was blinded by the chance of finding a 4-4 spade fit, but even if I did, it is not like it going o break veyr well. There is a lot to say about North doubling 3♦ with A87, in our style 1♣ opening kind of denies 4♦, Hxx is indeed a holding above average.
