whereagles
Who the heck is pard? Looks like he's bidding XX for rescue, but then again, aren't we playing michaels? Oh I see, he's from "michaels=55" brigade. Guess I bid 1H then.
pclayton
Sounds like pard is one of these 'brain-trusts' that likes to double with a 4522 or worse. 1D is playing awful - likely 4 or 5 card stack on my right. They'll lead a trump, cash a bunch of clubs. Down 4 looks possible. 1H OTOH may be tough to dbl and has to play better - even on a 4-2. Fluffy
I think partner is 4414, 2♣ to me.
HeartA
Pass. If pd didn't have 3 or more ♦s, it's not my problem. To bid 1♥ with 2-card? unless the bid goes (1C)-Pass (me)-(1D)-dbl-pass-?
the hog
This is probably the first time ever that I agree with any of HeartA's posts.
Winstonm
Someone is seriously wrong and I hope it is not us. I pass. If pard believed 1D doubled to be unplayable then a pull to 1H by him would send the same message as an SOS redouble I would think. winstonm
cherdano
I pass. Undiscussed XX should be for business, and if partner doesn't agree, this will be a good opportunity for a discussion :o
pclayton
Can anyone construct a hand that wants to play 1D xx'd, but PASSES 1D originally?
fred
I think the RDBL is for rescue. I will start with 1H. Expect to be doubled there, but you never know. If I am doubled in 1H I will run to 2C. Partner should not have 3 diamonds in my opinion. I don't like the idea of doubling 1C with 5-4 in the majors and 2-2 in the minors or with 4414, but perhaps my partner feels differently. I have no problem with doubling 1C with appropriate 4423 hands, but if I did this and the auction proceeded as described, I would probably live with it (ie I would not RDBL). I am not sure what partner is doing and I doubt I would approve of at least one of his calls, but the one thing I am sure about is that he does not want to play in 1D doubled. If that is the case then neither do I! Fred GitelmanBridge Base Inc.www.bridgebase.com
Walddk
2♣ is probably our best spot, but I will try 1♥ first and pull if it gets doubled. I am glad it's not my partner who doubled initially. He can't possibly have a hand where double was the right call. He must have fewer than two diamonds after the redouble. Roland
Guest Jlall
1H. I have high ones maybe they cant X lol.
Free
Pass, with a close 2♣ as second best. If partner doesn't have tollerance for ♦, then he doesn't have a Dbl. If he has 5-4 M, then he should have a normal overcall. So why RDbl? Probably SOS, so the only alternative imo is 2♣...
P_Marlowe
Pass. Making an undiscussed Redouble is asking for trouble. Marlowe
Gerben42
I bid 2♣. Partner should be 4423 or so. He should not have 5♥ so no use bidding that.
olegru
I bid 2♣. Partner should be 4423 or so. He should not have 5♥ so no use bidding that. What would be my first pass after rdbl? Did my 1 ♦ promise something or just deny points? If we have any agreement I'll pass, if have none run.
Walddk
I bid 2♣. Partner should be 4423 or so. I don't agree Gerben. Even if he doubled with that shape (not my style, but not unacceptable), he should not run away from 1♦ doubled. Partner is likely to have 5+ diamonds, because he bid in a situation where he didn't have to. Roland
Winstonm
After the redouble, the 1D bid should stongly suggest where to play as a pass is always available to let partner pick a suit, so it should be at least a 5-bagger and could be 6 or more. About the only hand I can think of where partner would use an SOS redouble would be with 4504 shape, in which case pard and I will have a long, long talk about takeout doubles. Since my partners do not make takeout doubles with this shape, I still pass the redouble as it could have been opener who was fooling around and not partner.
