As it happened, I had a fairly modest but not awful hand with five hearts and a stiff spade so, when opener now bid 3H, I raised to 4H, figuring how bad can it be?Making 5, partly from helpful defense. This situation is certainly different from 1S-(2NT). But still...I can't say I ever much thought about this before, I don't recall it coming up. Hyperon Posted June 3, 2016 Report Share Posted June 3, 2016 It is true that you could play something like good/bad: 3♣ = 5+♠ & 4+♥, gameforcing3♦ = 6+♠, gameforcing3M = natural, not forcing but in reality I would probably never bid on the 3-level with a hand where partner should not raise to game with a fit, so it wouldn't add much.
