I am up 9 IMPs but Broze hasn't been able to start the 2nd half.

Yes sorry I have been away. I will be able to play the second half of our game tomorrow night. Hope that is okay. Thanks.

Gordon and I have played two 12-board MP non-BH. He won each of them 54%.

In the first match there were only 5 swing board, he won 3. In the second match there was just 1. I was expecting something like that in the second match, they were all pretty boring hands.

The swing board in the second match hinged on an opening lead decision, which saved an overtrick.

[hv=pc=n&s=sjt92ht7dqj9ckt52&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1n(15-17)p2d(Transfer)p2s(Super-accept%2C%202!S)p3d(Re-transfer)p3hp4hppp]133|200[/hv]

What do you lead?

We both led a trump. I led the 7, Gordon led the 10.

Trumps were QJ863 opposite A542, and Gordon's lead induced declarer to finesse the 8 into North's then-singleton 9 on trick 2.

In all honesty, I would lead J at trick 1. And I think the critical decision point would come much later in the deal....

When the robot leads Q from dummy and North covers, it probably makes sense to drop the 10 on it.

And although gordontd's opening lead worked this time, I think in principle the lead of the 10 from the trump suit is not optimal in theory.

I would lead the jack of spades too, but dropping the 10 would never work. Who plays the ten from T9x there when a certain trick has been set up?

Gordon and I completed our remaining 2 matches now, and I won these two.

58% http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:dbba85ff.3305.11e6.a318.0cc47a39aeb4-1466001093 8 pushes, 3 wins for me

62% http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:6eb68816.330c.11e6.a318.0cc47a39aeb4-1466003917 9 pushes, 3 wins for me

So the overall result was

Barmar: 25.5

Gordontd: 22.5

35 of the 48 boards were pushes, and I think most of them were the DD result (but there were a handful where the robot was declaring and it dropped a possible trick).

One of the swings on the last match hinged on what to bid when you have a minimum 2=3=5=3 opener. The auction goes (unopposed) 1 1 1NT 2. Do you pass (Gordon's choice) or take preference back to responder's first suit (mine)? Responder was actually 5=4, so I think my contract was more comfortable (Moysians are not great at low levels). Both contracts are makable double dummy, but Gordon didn't find the line.

Well done Barry and good luck in the next round.
