A rebid problem

Recommended Posts

I like the idea of 2D - although I can imagine trying out some bid such as 3S as well - I like my hand for spade game if partner is not a complete bust.

In my experience, when there is a choice between a slight underbid and a slight overbid the underbid is almost always right. A 5-loser hand is tempting, but if partner's 2 cover cards are the K of spades and K of clubs, we probably aren't making a lot.

I bid 2D. Partner should know this can conceal a quite good hand and try to keep the auction alive with a decent responding hand of around 9 or so.

the minority report has returned and is wading in to piranha infested waters with a (gasp)

3h

rebid. This seems especially important if this is MP where hearts will almost always beat out diamonds. I have a soft spot in my heart for those wishing to bid 3d as a GF (no opinion on the gadget since I do not know how it works) but this hand really does need some luck opposite most minimums to make game. Do not ask about my opinion of 2d ()(*&^#$) (some random characters). To make such a potentially weak bid with a hand with this much potential seems almost criminal in any form of scoring (and at IMPS it probably IS criminal).

3h = 9

3d = 5

2d = 2.5

2h = 1.5

Because leading dummy's suit is far from obvious.

Oh come on. Are you telling us that you will bid

1--1

2--6 http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

it will go more like

1--1

2--3

4--[4 . (dbl) or opening leader will have KQ or better.)

Anyway, I am a 2 bidder but I believe you are also assuming that had you bid 2 you would reach slam easily, which is far from reality (maybe not hard to bid for people who thinks this is a decent slam)

You can pick to show a GF hand with exactly 4 diamonds using a gadget. It will end with you bidding 3.

This seems to be a two way question.

First:

If I have a gadget to game force and show four diamonds, I think I would use it. The hand may not be quite worth a gf, so I sort of wish that it were an almost game force, but I think I go with the risk. I am assuming that the use of this gadget leaves open the possibility of partner subsequently supporting hearts, or showing five spades, or me being able to offer a red suit choice by later bidding 4H.

Second:

Suppose I don't have such a gadget. I would like to show my 6-4 and my almost game forcing hand. I don't think I can. I think I just join in the minority view described above and bid 3H. As it happens, this works here since 6H goes down.

It may seem inconsistent to use the gf gadget if it is available but only bid 3H if it is not available, but my thinking is that being able to show my shape and probe for game in spades, hearts or diamonds by using this gadget makes it worth the chance of it being an overbid.
