good hand getting better

I exclusioned myself, and when partner had no keycards, I just bid 6H. This made, but I thought my approach was perhaps to unilateral. How about 4D (splinter) first, and if partner signs off I'll try again with 5D (showing first round control and an even better hand).

I'm not sure what 3D followed by 5H shows Ben, except that it shows a very strong hand.

I assume after 3D partner will bid 3H (he can't have much). Now 5 ask specifically about quality of the heart suit. That is, no interest in anything but the quality of the heart suit.

I can't jump to 5H immediately as that ask about a diamond stopper...

How do you plan to try for slam?

I like 3 here, partner will probably bid 3, I don't see anything wrong with a nice steady cuebidding auction.

Why not go

1-(Pass)-1-(2)

3-(Pass)-3-(Pass)

3-(Pass)-4-(Pass)

4NT-(Pass)-????

3 - Cuebid

3 - No diamond coverage

3 - Spade control

4 - Still isn't sure of the contract, but can't play NT at all

4NT - Play it as RKC or 1430, whichever.

If partner shows 1 keycard, you know it's the K, that's really all you need having known that he has bid, has to have at least 6 points and 3 of them are shown in the K, you hope he has the K or even the QJ to roll this one home.

This is an interesting hand. At first I was inclined to simply bid 5H and settle for a small slam. On further review, I don't like that approach at all. First, 5H may not make and second, 7H may be on.

I think I like 2S here best. It creates a force and gives partner a chance to clarify his hand. This is especially true if we are using Lebensohl in this sequence. Even without, though, pard can bid 2N, 3C, 3H, 3N, or even raise spades, all of which gives me a little more information.

It is hard to go into all the ramifications of how the auction will proceed after his next bid, but all in all I feel I will be better placed for the subsequent bidding than had I cue bid.

The only other sequence I think I would consider would be a 4D splinter, which almost forces a 4H bid from partner, followed by a 5D bid. Not only would this guarantee the diamond first round control but would also by implication show a heart concern and controls in the other suits. A real tight partnership would then I believe find a 5S bid on Kxx, KQxxx, Kxx, xx and the grand could be reached.

Other than that, I'm open to ideas.

Is no-one worried that the bidding may go

1C P 1H (2D)

3D 5D P P

Or if you cue-bid 3D, partner holding 5 of em will bid 3NT.

4♦ splinter, followed by 5♦ if partner bids the expected 4♥.

why does 4 diamonds = splinter? (or do your splinters show a void?)

I thought 3 diamond showing good heart raise, would be first step, then cue bidding from there

i.e.

1C - p - 1H - 2D

3D - p - (3H, continue cue bidding) ( or 4H)

with 19 and a void, is RKCB still the way to go after a 4!H bid?

what if pard bids 3NT or what if opp jumps over your 3 Diamonds with 5 of his own? or even what if pard bids 3 spades, with 2 Diamond over call may be you should not be looking for slam unless Pard is the one showing more interest.

I have tried looking for slam many time after getting over excited with a similar opener only to find you go down in 5 or 6

I think 3 Hearts or 3 / 4S pades or even another Diamondd cue bid after 3 Diamonds is the only mildly encouraging sign to continue with?
