Robot does not have to bid 2H. In fact, there is no reason to bid at all.

Hi Goffster

Welcome you to Gib robot forum. I would answer your question, but I think your point is wrong.

- Now first let's see your hand .

- You said Robot doesn't have to bid 2, in fact, there is no reason to bid at all.

Ok, I would check and replay your hand to tell its exact reason.

1- It normally goes :

[hv=http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?sn=Robot&s=SK742H8764D8CAKQ7&wn=Robot&w=SQ85HAK3DQJ65C962&nn=Robot&n=S63HQ95DKT972CJ53&en=Robot&e=SAJT9HJT2DA43CT84&d=w&v=o&b=8&a=1D(Minor%20suit%20opening%20--%203+%20%21D%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)P1S(One%20over%20one%20--%204+%20%21S%3B%206+%20total%20points)D(Two%20suit%20takeout%20--%204+%20%21C%3B%205-%20%21D%3B%204+%20%21H%3B%205-%20%21S%3B%2012+%20total%20points)R!(Support%20redouble%20-%203%20S%20--%203+%20%21D%3B%203%20%21S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)2H(4+%20%21H%3B%2010-%20total%20points)PPP&p=DAD8D5D2H2H8HKH5SQS6SJSKCAC2C5C4H7HAH9HTS5S3SAS7HJH6H3HQDKD3S4D6DTD4S2DJC6C3CTCKC7C9CJC8D9S9H4DQCQS8D7ST]400|300[/hv]

2- If north pass, south must regard it as cooperative penalty double.

Result : 1Exx= 520

Obviously, there is a very serious consequence.

Any ideas? I can try to help you.

Since the XX shows 3cd -support, South knows North is marked with 2 or fewer spades.

Only an idiot would take North's Pass to be for penalties.

Very good replyhttp://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif.

I always remember that Stephen Tu had ever said " Gib is a kind of rigid...", that's to say Gib is a kind of loyalty model which determines Gibs' bidding are different from human.

Now I can take a real example.

Here is from 2016 USBC QF - Segment 7 of 8

[hv=http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?sn=Levin&s=S963HQJ7D9874CJ73&wn=Fleisher&w=SQT84HA932DKJCQT4&nn=Weinstein&n=SAKJ7HT85DT653CK2&en=Martel&e=S52HK64DAQ2CA9865&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=P1C(2+%20clubs)DRPP1SPP1NP3NPPP&p=SAS2S3S4D6DQD9DJC5C3CTCKHTH4HJHACQC2C6C7DKD3D2D4C4&c=9]400|300[/hv]

So human isn't a kind of rigid model, there are many differences between Gibs and human.http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

I would consider bidding 2 to be a silly bid. If doubler has 5 clubs and 4 hearts, clubs will probably play much better. You don't have a strong preference so why bid a 3 card suit that may bypass your best suit? No guarantees, but I would have bid 1NT since I've got diamonds very well stopped and scattered values.

"Cooperative penalty double"?????? Only in the GIB world where there is a hole in the bidding charts.

Oh, my god, how could I forget the brackets on Cooperative?

Now you see I am typing it as ( Cooperative ) penalty double, I think I have " fixed " this hole in the bidding charts.http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Now my dog looks confused... is asking: What's this deal got to do with anything at all? :blink: :unsure: :huh: :blink: :blink:

It would tell you a story how world experts dealt with such similar hand, it is different from Gibs.http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif

As I early said , Gib CC is

- bid 2= escape, weakish bid.

- pass, Gib will regard it as " agree with penalty option." This is a Gib approach, it differ with human CC !http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
