Playing BAM scoring and a 13-16 1NT opening. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sxxxhaqxdak9xcxxx]133|100|Scoring: BAM[/hv]

The bidding goes--you open 1NT. Partner bids 2 transfer to hearts. You bid 2 , now partner bids 3 inviting with a 6 card suit. Do you pass or go on? And would your answer change depending on the scoring system?

Best to all as ever---

I pass, not just because I got dead minimum, but also 4-3-3-3, and no controls on black suits.

If the other table play 15-17 NT, the bidding could go 1D-1H-2H-4H (3H-pass/4H), or 1D-1H-1NT-2H, or even 1D-1H-1N-3H-4H. I would pass anyway, regardless of the scoring.

I bid... tada...! 3NT!!!!

Makes if pard has something like

xxx

Kxxxxx

xX

Ax

Hum.. ok, maybe at imps this is more reasonable.

3NT

I hope p would have:

AXX

KXXXXX

X

QXX

P is expected to still use judgement over 3nt and may pull with junky h and outside hcp.

Since I deny 4H and they want me to bid game with 2 or 3H and 14 HCP.

If they want me to bid game with 14 and random 4333 when they have less why bother to play invites.

I have to bid a game. Opposite an expected hand with the KJ of hearts I can count six hearts and two diamonds. Missing the heart king, my hand is actually a little better since the heart suit may come in opposite six small. I anticipate a total of about nine HCP total. This means five or more HCP outside hearts. Will that translate into one (if the contract is NT) or two (if 4H) tricks? I think the odds favor that.

As to the choice between 4H or 3NT, the case for 3NT almost boils down to one 'magic' hand:

QJx

KJxxxx

x

QJx

Never bid the 'magic' hand. So, I think 4H is the ticket.

4H is a solid favorite

another vote for 3NT at imps.

at mp I'll take plus score,

Insufficient experience to suggest correct bid at b.a.m. (Instinct says bid 3NT making it a win/lose situation, put the pressure on opps to beat me.) I would consult my medium or check my horoscope--5+ controls/ hand is better than your average 13 hcp, can see 8 tricks off the top (probably) provided opps don't run 5-6 tricks off the top. Then I'll have the chance to say "sorry, P"!)

Depends on your partner's style mostly imo. In a partnership, you need one pusher and one who brakes. If you're the pusher, then bid 3NT (4 is a little high, and no use of your trumps). If partner is the pusher, then pass...

If I have to choose between pass and 4, I'll pass, but at the table there are no such silly restrictions so I can bid what I have to bid.

BAM or matchpoint, easy pass, respect pard's invite.

If we desperately need a swing (BAM) or a top (MP), I bid 3NT.

IMPS, 3NT.

Partner opens 1NT, playing the same 13-16 HCP count. What is your strategy for this hand?

Xfer and invite by bidding 3M, exactly as your example.

But if it was an IMP match, I would take a chance xferring directly to game, without sending back the ball in pard's court.

------------------------------------------------

As a side issue:

do you use a 3 card support 2NT superaccept of xfers ?

Does it show HHx support ?

Does it show a max ?

So as a corollary to this question: You hold: [hv=d=n&v=e&s=sa6hk107652d105ck86]133|100|Scoring: BAM[/hv] Partner opens 1NT, playing the same 13-16 HCP count. What is your strategy for this hand?

With this hand, I would bid 4 directly after transfer.

7.5 loser hand, 4-3-3-3? No thanks. I'll pass.

So as a corollary to this question:  You hold:
Dealer: North
Vul: E/W
Scoring: BAM

With this hand, I would bid 4 directly after transfer.

Looking at a 7 loser hand opposite probably a 7 loser hand, have to chance it and bid 4 hearts over the 2 hearts transfer.

Pard should have around 10 for this call, right?

8 tricks are marked. Deduct 3 for the K leaving a scattered 7 count to take 2 tricks.

Its close but I go on to 4. 3N very well could be our only makeable spot, and the quick tricks tell me that it is, but it looks like we are too wide open.

Besides, 3N wasn't listed as an option, so it MUST be wrong. :P

This is an easy game bid over a 13-16 NT. there are MANY 13-14 point hand games that pard should be passing an invite with that make game cold or good. Anyone who invites with this counts points.

same @ imps, pass @ mps

BAM is MP's, but you bid like you're playing imps? ;)

Yes, I was just wondering about that... BAM strategy should be very similar to MP strategy, the only difference is that the 'field' is more predictable.
