Version 1.48r feedback thread

Recommended Posts

The lack of a vertical scroll bar is not just limited to the top left pane of the opening screen after logging in (see earlier report in this thread and beta testing thread)

If you click on "Masterpoints and Races" icon from within that pane, the next pane that opens repeats the problem.

I open "My BBO" - "Hands and Results" - "Recent Tournaments". Then I click on "My Hands" for some Daylong Tournament I have played. The list of "Other Tables" is simply too long to extract relevant information. It would be much better if for each result there is only one line where the number of occurrences of this result is displayed in addition to the current columns, and the bidding and play below is just an example of a table where this result was achieved. Maybe this way of displaying other tables should always be chosen above a threshold of 500 tables or so.

In the "My Table"-list of a total points tourney the columns usually used for IMPs or MPs are empty. Maybe you could use them for displaying the average total points in this boards. So I would have a clue if my result is above or below average. It is not so important to have this information while the tourney is running, but I would like to have it when I study "My Hands" later.

Good idea -- BridgeMates use this same technique when they display travellers.

If a line is for multiple results, it probably should be expandable, so you click on it and it opens up to show all the tables with that result, and you can then click on these to see the bidding and play.

There are several things about the new design that I do not like. Graphically, it is primitive, reminding me of the early days of web page design. I do not like it opening on news feed, but would rather have a default to "who's online". Perhaps each member can choose their preferred default. Finally, I question the need for new design...jut for the sake of change? sorry, it just doesn't work for me.

Just now I logged in to BBO by client of English version.( Barmar teached me.)

I saw Diana's Challenges, so I accepted it. However I joined the table and played normally several hands, suddently BBO server terminated our Challenges, removing me from the match table, I have no idea what had happened.

A new version of BBO was released today. This is Version 1.48r.

Main changes are:

  • Newsfeed
  • Challenges
  • Free Daylong Tournaments
  • New design

For details, see:

http://www.bridgebas...n-148r-is-here/

Please post your suggestions/feedback here!

The new design is Godawful! Liked the old one far better. Was much more visually well organized and far less of an eyesore.

I think " Challenges" is a wonderful match. Here I have a question, I have no idea what " best hand " is.

I think the challenges will become more interesting if I can challenge all my friends, so I would suggest :

1- add a option : Challenge all my friends

2- meanwhile add a option on limited time : 30 min, 1 hour, 2 hours, 24 hours etc.

More importantly, this will contribute to the activities of the bridge group.

I never open it, don't know if it is normal.

Since about a month ago, if you're not logged in when a tournament ends, so you can't get the popup results, BBO sends you mail with the results. When we added challenges, they were included in this. So if you finish a challenge first, and you're not logged in when the other person finishes, you'll get the result in mail.

It isn't a crucial bug, but when I opened the new version and clicked on the VuGraph button this afternoon, I found the display below:

post-196-0-74096700-1461528016_thumb.png

(Clicking on it shows a bigger image, at least on my Mac. I rarely, if ever, post images, obviously...)

It should be needless to say, but when I enter a room, there is more than one kibitzer. When I return to the table list after being at a table (which is probably legacy code), the number of kibitzers is more accurate.

I can't see your image, but if the vugraph was Bridge Winners Challenge Match, that's not a real vugraph. It's an online match artificially linked on vugraph to make it easier for kibs to join it. That 1 kibitzer is the vugraph operator. As soon as you click the Join button you are taken to the real match, which has more kibs.

I expect that old news feeds remain available to view, if you know the URL, despite that they no longer are linked from the main screen. I reckon that one of the tabs currently devoted to a news feed should be reassigned to a general "archived news feeds" link.

How do the daylong tournaments actually work? I've entered them several times and was assuming other people played the same hands; but having just played the Total Points daylong, I had a look at the top scorer and discovered they won because they were served up two grand slam deals, and I wasn't, which seems a bit bizarre.

Each board number randomly selects among 25 different hands for each player.

This reduces problems with cheating, since a friend could tell you about their boards, but most of your boards will be different.

The expectation is that it will even out -- some players will get a better hand on board 1, other players get a better hand on board 2, and so on.

People play rubber bridge for money, which is highly dependent on who gets good hands.

Huh? Mean reversion doesn't happen in eight boards.
