apollo1201
4S. If 5 trump support, a side ace and a (99% of times) useful void are not enough, what else is? Although I'm not too sure of the meaning of "more preemptive".Then I guess the answer to question 2 derives from the fine (but not 100% explicit to us) gradation you make between the different raises. And if a pass from partner is forcing (after 2NT?). But anyway, I'd still be tempted to bid 5 as I have a bit more than expected, while 5C can only be -1 or even make on a very stormy day. SteveMoe
4♠ then DBL, assuming partner pulls if they do not have at least 2 winners. I've been wrong before.
robert2734
Whats the vulnerability? Bid 4S. After 5C, I bid 5S. I can't risk a double game swing. If partner has S AKxxx H X D KQxxx C xx and the diamonds split 4-1, we can make 6 spades and they make 5 clubs. Partner's pass suggests he doesn't have any wasted honors in clubs. Then bid 3♠ and 4♠.2♠ = NAT, But, again, keep bidding to 4 level.3♠ = NAT. Then 4♠
phoenix214
I think the hand has a bit more value than bidding 4S - in that way I would like to tell partner i have more values - so in the case of that 2N seems the right bid - although what would be 4H by me now? If I can show more cards in my hand that would be great as well - the only problem with that is that partner might undervalue his singleton H. wank
mixed raise 5s - having shown some values already i'm much happier bidding on with my extra shape. if i had the ace of d unshown i'd be worried that i was phantoming

Alas, 5S was a phantom across from AQJxx Axx Qxxx x. Kinda thinking CHO owes me a x with this once I show a little D.
Jinksy
Easy to say after the denouement, but I would just bid 4♠ here. If they raise to 5♣, P will know about my shortage as well as I do, so will be well placed to make the final decision. If he has no shortage of his own, we probably don't want to bid 5/5. gszes
2n Using the system as described. 2N gets us another chance to bid and we cannot afford to not be in game. The dia A makes this a hard hand to preempt in case the opps bid 5c. We do not have the values to show p a ton of stuff but we would like to see an x if perchance the opps continue to bid above 4s (either immediately or later). If p cannot do anything over 5c should we go to 5s? I am not sure. First we might not even beat 6c and there is no guarantee 5s will be a great sac (ie -300 or -500 are plausible). Phil
4♠ seems obvious to me, why did you not like it? Because I didn't want partner to take a phantom and x 5C knowing I have defense.
Winstonm
I think this is a better question of what do I bid after 2C without knowing that a 5C bid is imminent. My thinking has always been the same - tell my partner the approximate strength of my hand and then shut up unless a further bid is needed for more clarification. If 4S tells the tale, bid it and go quietly onward.
