VixTD
Matchpoints, both sides vulnerable: [hv=pc=n&e=sat9853hdk3cakq97&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=4h]133|200[/hv]You don't have any fancy agreements here, but you can bet that partner will understand a double to be primarily for takeout, 4NT showing two places to play. What do you bid, and why?
mcphee
Had to pick other as 4S did not appear as a choice. So mark me down for 4S. I can't see any other option really, bidding any more is huge risk imo.

rmnka447
I'm also a 4 ♠ bidder. It seems the most likely plus score. After a preempt, it's better to get to a good spot than the perfect spot.
ggwhiz
Nothing is safe above 4♠ unless partner can move. Partner is an unpassed hand but so is lho and I could have less for this bid but not a whole bunch.

WesleyC
Absolutely automatic 4S, especially at MPs.

(Underbidding 4♠ is risky, too, and getting a plus score is not an end in itself at any form of scoring.)
Caitlynne
You have a nice hand IF (and that is a BIG if) partner has spade support. Your spades are weak, so if partner puts down a singleton, you could easily go down in 4S. On the other hand, if partner has Kxx of spades and the Ace of diamonds, only a 4-0 trump break beats 6S. But those are TWO specific cards you need to make slam good. I think 4S is pretty clear. Nothing else strikes me as reasonable.

What do you bid, and why? 4 spades after a lot of soul searching. Not at all happy bidding such a flimsy suit at the 4 level in second seat vulnerable. And it would serve me right if the rest of the ♠ suit was bunched on my left and a "DOUBLE" in a voice of thunderwas heard there. dave_beer
4♠. Partner may be able to make a move with good ♠ support and either red ace. Opposite a singleton ♠ I may belong in ♣. However I will also need partner to have enough ♣ support to ruff my ♠ losers and either the ♦A or Q. Even if the ♦A is onside I may not be able to take the finesse safely. I would have bet money that you would pass. Of course the VoT is one possible result. Just not the most likely one.
nullve
You have a nice hand IF (and that is a BIG if) partner has spade support. Give partner as little as x-xxx-Qxxx-xxxxx.
neilkaz
I'd not consider anything but 4♠ here. Note that partner might have a good hand with supports and an ace or two and make a further move.
Zelandakh
Stop-4♠ would portray our values nicely in a kitchen game. :P
Phil
4S but it's darn close to 5H. Add the sJ and I'd take the high road.
dirtbag
4 level pre-empt on my right with a 3 loser hand bidding 4♠ is way too weak, u are missing slam way to often given that your partner rates to have something, or LHO has the rest of the cards and 5♥ is likely to make anyways
razorsharp
as long as i am budgeting for 2 trump losers & a !D (or vice-versa), I choose to bet on partners !H and not my !S. EL PASSO :)
Charlie Yu
4N two places to play. I am not so worried about 5C and 5S both going down.
Grumpy Boy
4S even 2 down is a better result than ops making 4H!
WellSpyder
When you are fixed, stay fixed. 4♠ will get you a sensible result most of the time, even though you will miss the best result some of the time. Any other call may well get you a silly result.
