Opponents open your suit

  1. 1. What would you call?

I didn't mean to imply you overcalled 1nt with a weak one, just that playing the weak nt style run outs in this auction is unheard of here. Perhaps because anyone who plays ks and has multiple partners plays strong nt a lot.

It's a different debate but I REALLY dislike systems on after 1nt is doubled.

Seems like partner could have opened 3 and certainly should have balanced with 2.

Partner doesn't pre-empt. It's not that he's overly timid, or hasn't learned about them yet, he's one of the county's best players, but it's just not his style. We don't play weak twos, so we pass a lot of hands that others don't. We do play weak threes, but he's still more conservative than most players, and maybe even most players wouldn't open this hand.

I didn't mention this, because I wanted to know what you would all choose playing with a "normal" partner. I also wondered whether partner's first-round pass made a difference, but no one's mentioned this.

I passed, reasoning that I didn't have a great source of tricks, and that I was quite happy to defend 1X if partner can find a reopening double. I see I'm in a minority. It was passed out and beaten by one trick. It wasn't a good score, as partner had:

[hv=pc=n&w=sk9hq876532d963c9]133|100[/hv]

Thanks for your replies.

Of course pard cannot pass this hand nv in first seat letr alone in pass out seat.

If she is then we need to know that before we sit down please :)

As for the OP prefer 1nt, bidding to pass but I can understand pass.

I think that a 3 opening on this hand is disgusting. Balancing is pretty reasonable at matchpoints. Would probably do that, but would think twice if righty broke tempo. Balancing them into game is really annoying.

1N - p - p is the best continuation you can hope for because now you can x which is a great description.

Is it? It sounds like a takeout double which has some flaw (probably too weak) that prevented you from doubling at your previous turn.,

Pass. The question was "what would you bid", not "what would a sensible bid be".

The sensible bid on this hand is 1NT natural, but I play 1NT as raptor over a major opening, as this is generally more useful in my opinion. 1NT is better here because

1) I can't see them playing in spades

2) partner will rescue to a long suit if he has one without strength.

It's love all, matchpointed pairs:

[hv=pc=n&e=sqt652hatdaj7ckq7&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1s]133|200[/hv]

Opponents play Acol, weak NT, four-card majors. What do you bid and why?

1NT in my sleep regardless of system. I have all the requisites 16+ points and a double stop

in the enemy suit. I'm not into trap passing......
