Cyberyeti
The layout is easy N has K, KQJ10x3 The line is more awkward as there are several possibilities but broadly divides into 2 paths. In both cases you: Win and cash 7 spades keeping ♥76, ♦A, ♣A9, then cash the 8th. It then depends whether N discards all his diamonds or not N clearly must keep 2 clubs and a heart. If he keeps a diamond (or an extra club), you throw a club, play a diamond to the ace and knock out the A♥ then scoring a club and a heart. If he keeps an extra heart, you throw A♦ and it then depends how many diamonds S keeps. If he keeps less than 4, cash the 9 and play the 7, S must give you either 2 diamonds or 2 winners in dummy (the last diamond squeezes N so either ♣A9 or ♣A and ♥7). If S keeps ♦8532, lead the 7, if S wins he'd endplayed, if he ducks, lead the 4 and you must make 2 more

nige1
[hv=pc=n&d=W&n=SKHKQJTDKQJTCKQJT&w=SAQJ76543H8D9764C&e=S2HA765432DACA932&a=6NPPP"]400|300|West is declarer in 6N.North leads ♥K and South follows with ♥9.What's the winning line? What are the NS hands? Well done cyberyeti - getting the complete solution, so quickly! Yes the complete deal is[/hv][hv=pc=n&d=W&n=SHQJDKCKQ&s=SHD8532C8&w=S3HD9764C&e=SH76DACA9&a=-WN"]400|300| And Yes ..Win ♥A and run ♠s to reach this 5-card ending with West on lead. The last ♠ triple-squeezes North. - North must keep at least 2 ♣s, to prevent dummy's ♣9 becoming the 12th trick.- North must keep at least 2 ♥s, or declarer can cross to ♦A, to set up a 12th trick in ♥s. Hence North must throw all his ♦s. Now, declarer jettisons ♦A and South is squeezed- if South keeps 4 ♦s, then declarer leads ♦7. South is endplayed on this or the next trick.- if South keeps fewer than 4♦s, then declarer leads ♦9 and another. North must abandon a round suit and South has to give declarer or dummy two of the last 3 tricks. [/hv]
shyams
I tried this on New Year's Eve. I started by winning the Heart Ace and ruffing a heart! :)My equally drunk opponents did not see anything unusual and I was soon wrapping up the slam. Happy New Year! hic
Phil
Fun hand but I'm pretty sure this in an Ewart Kempson book.
nige1
Fun hand but I'm pretty sure this in an Ewart Kempson book. Thank you, Phil :) I think it's a beautiful hand and I'm proud to say that I composed it about 20 years ago for a quiz published in Elena's Bridge Plus magazine :).
