in the main bridge club, there are very few MP tables.

 

a little suggestion:

in bbo, after you click start a table u see 4 options

1. start an IMP pair table

2. start a MP pair table

3. start a total points table

4. start a vugraph game table

 

could we change the option order to MP 1st?

You think the reason is because people just go with the default, rather than what they actually prefer?

 

I think IMP games have always been more popular on the Internet -- it was the same back when I first started playing OKbridge over 20 years ago.

If there were actually a default, then I'd say "Yes" people who don't have a strong opinion would frequently simply go with the default. However, it appears to me that there is no default; you have to actually choose one or the other. Swapping the order at this point would mostly just aggravate people who accidentally pick the "wrong" one because they don't notice that things have changed. People who are indifferent probably are more likely to pick the one that's listed first, but I think this "experiment" would cause more annoyance than it's worth.

I think people prefer IMPs for the casual play that occurs in the MBC because they perceive it as the easier form of the game. This is especially true when playing with randoms -- it takes more partnership skill to bid accurately or get that extra trick on defense. IMPs tends to be more forgiving of small errors, since they're not usually the setting trick.

I started a MP table today, just to see if it's still possible to play a random MP game on BBO. When the table still wasn't full after 22 minutes, I gave up.
