mghatiya
I remember reading somewhere that 4-4 fits are better than 5-4 fits to decide the trump, as 5 carder can be utilised to throw a loser. I used that principle and bid accordingly in this hand and landed in 4S contract. http://tinyurl.com/owa66nw Apparently 4H was cold while 4S requires specific play. Did I remember the principle wrong? Or was it just exception? Also, what do you think is right play after ♦K lead and switch to small ♣? Opponents have remained silent throughout the bidding. PhantomSac
It is the (very big) exception that the 4-4 fit is better than the 5-4 fit. Always try to play the 5-4 fit unless you have an extremely concrete reason not to. Hands where the 4-4 fit are better are often written about because they are rare. Much like hands where you need to play a 4-3 fit in a slam etc.
Cyberyeti
The key to the 4-4 being better is that you have something that you need to discard on the 5th card, which is not the case here, if you have a side suit of AKx opposite xxx then that's the sort of time the 4-4 will play better.
