AyunuS
http://tinyurl.com/jp47725 Look at west's hand. How can it possibly bid 3♦ force to 3NT with that opposite a hand that hasn't shown any strength? It could've just passed 3♣ seeing that it doesn't have that great of a hand. Edit: And yes this is advanced GIB, in IMPs.
Stephen Tu
3♣ is actually supposed to show strength. GIB plays lebensohl so weak advancers are supposed to bid 2nt not 3♣. 3♣ directly should be ~8-11 IMO. But west isn't strong enough to move forward opposite a real 3♣ bid either. So they need to fix:- make east bid 2nt (doesn't even meet current definition)- fix the direct range to something more normal (I think 10-12 is somewhat too high, good 8 count is enough?)- stop west from moving with minimums. lycier
Stephen Tu,on this problem, basic robot is same with the advanced,no difference.Even basic robot not necessarily do such silly thing at many of cases, don't know reasons. 1eyedjack
The description that GIB assigned to the East hand in the alerts is borderline reasonable in a Leb context: 10-12 total points and 11- HCP. I qualify it with 'borderline' because total points is of limited use when the most likely game is NT, as is so often the case when the alternative is a minor. Here West should concentrate on the "11- HPC" aspect to the explanation, which makes it not good enough to look for 3N, while 10-12 total points is not really enough to go looking for 5C. On an extraordinary day 4H may be in the frame, and 3D *may* elicit 3H from partner, particularly since GIB is prone to bidding a 5 card Club suit before a 4 card major. But the biggest problem with this hand I think is the mismatch between East's hand and the description assigned to it. While the description may be reasonable, the actual hand is a pure bug.
