On hand 3, do you not have the North and South hands switched?
Sorry :( Yes :( Thank you manudude03! :) Now corrected (I hope) :)

I see I've made another typo/braino. This topic was intended for the Interesting Hands forum.

I would be grateful if a moderator would be so kind as to move it

Thoughts about leads.

Hand 1

Responder can't have more than 4 trumps. It's possible that the 4 bid was made on 4 trumps and a second 6 card suit probably , maybe something like xxxx xx x AK10xxx. Leading a may be fatal. So make a standard honor lead.

Hand 2

Tougher lead, but we've got to have near half the points unless partner has doubled lightly. So, I'm leading passively with a trump trying not to give anything away. It may also help prevent a ruff if opener has a doubleton .

Hand 3

Missing honors after first trick - KJ KJ - KQ. Opener had A. Missing honors total up to 13 HCP. Along with A, they would give opener 17 HCP. If partner has any more, it will be Q or a J and no more. After trick 3, we're down to a couple ways to beat the contract. Lead a club and find partner with Q and declarer 3 or more scoring 2 more and A for down 1. Lead a and hope partner has J9x. Holding KJ and KQ, declarer might lay down both top and start on setting up to pitch losers. Take your choice of what to play for in partners hand.

I'm leading a .

a lead defeats the contract. Since opponents have advertised 9 trumps, a trump lead is unlikely to cost a trick and it may be necessary to prevent a cross-ruff, as here.

I found the lead :) but then failed to ruff a with J and lead another trump, so I let the contract make :( [/hv][hv=pc=n&s=saj632ha763dt3c97&w=s984ht9d87642ckj8&n=sq75hkjdq95cat543&e=skthq8542dakjcq62&b=2&d=w&v=e&a=p1n(12-14)d(Penalty)r(Strength-showing)2d(Weak)pp2S(Natural)p2Np3H(Natural)p4Sppp]399|300|

A lead defeats the contract. Partner plays 3 rounds of s, declarer ruffing. When you get in with a , you lead a 4th to promote a trump trick.:) Like some BBOers, partner led a :( Declarer set up dummy's s for an easy 10 tricks. IMO, a is the worst suit to lead. At trick 4, a major lead defeats the contract. IMO, If you count the hand, a is the logical exit :) I led a x, however :( which declarer ran to his T to make the contract :( [/hv]

Woop Feynman.

1) Wut? A spade lead from Jxxx 'unlikely to cost a trick'? Even when they can theoretically pick up the s, the last thing want to do is reveal the trump split to them at trick 1. Maybe we're playing two different games - I would sooner lead the Q.

2) Meh. or both seem like decent shots.

3) I returned a in the poll, picturing declarer with something like KJxx KJx ATx Kxx, and a club loser about to disappear on the Hs when he gets back in, but in retrospect it seems like a spade does as well or better against most such hands, since even with 4 hearts coming in, declarer looks to be struggling for tricks when P has the Q.
