PhilG007
Pass there is no god bid in acol, p can protect, non question Another very good reason for passing is that in 2nd seat you are sitting "under the gun" LHO has not yetbid so there is unknown strength there. If you overcall and the remainder of the points are bunched on your left, the next thing will be a penalty double from there and you can get ready with the sackcloth and ashes and get preparedto record a hefty minus score for your side. Anyone with a good sense of danger will unhesitatingly pass and hope thatif the bidding is passed round to partner,he will balance(as he should)

wank
Pass there is no god bid in acol, p can protect, non question it always makes me laugh when people use acol as an excuse for bad competitive bidding. the opps opened. you're not playing acol or any other system.
wank
For the doublers, what do you plan to do if partner bids 2♦? put dummy down. partner has 5+ diamonds there over 3/4 of the time i'd guess. it's still a pretty clear double with 4342 which is a worse shape because you play the wrong part score when p is a weak 44 in the minors. anyway, if you didn't put dummy down, you'd have to do something else, which is obviously stupid.
sfi
Pass and hope to make it if the opps leave us there. Same here.

manudude03
I'm a doubler, even though my partner always seems to find my doubleton and find himself playing a 4-2 fit. No fear of that...if partner does have something to say,he'll say it.....rest assured(!) :) the partner of the hand I gave had Qxxxxx, x, xxx, xxx Is partner supposed to find a 2S/3S bid after 1H-P-2H/3H? Cyberyeti
Is partner supposed to find a 2S/3S bid after 1H-P-2H/3H? Exactly, are you bidding 3♠ over 1♥-P-2N/3♥ with Qxxxxx and out or even with AQxxxx and out ?
Jinksy
No fear of that...if partner does have something to say,he'll say it.....rest assured(!) :) Does it not give you pause for thought either that you're demonstrably wrong on the actual hands, or that a couple of the UK's strongest players (to say nothing of other very strong players in the thread) disagree with your 'only sensible course of action'? phil_20686
Its just an easy double. You have compensating values to make up for the poor shape if partner bids diamonds. Take away the diamond queen and I can see value in passing, its now an aceless 12 count with with poor shape. I would much rather double now than later. EricK
I would pass, but it wouldn't take much more to make me double, and I wouldn't mind if partner chose to double with a hand like this. I agree with Phil_20686 that if you take away the ♦Q then it is much clearer to pass - but I fear that RHO's ♦A will take away my ♦Q!
