This is probably the toughest hand to bid

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I agree, that this is though and surely too tough for me.

Let the games begin with:

1 Club 1 Spade

2 Club 2 Diamond (nmf)

2 Heart 2 Spade

3 Spade

So for responder knows 5+ clubs

4 Hearts, 2 good or 3 bad spades

0-2 diamonds and no extra

strength from opener.

So I guesss, that I would bid 4 Heart and play there.

No real success.

Kind Regards

Roland

Hi Rado,

it looks fine but after 4C, guess North only can cuebid 4H and South 4S to show honor doublton. North is missing a diamond control, thus cannot afford to bypass 5C, and South certainly will be facing pressure too, looking at the 4 little hearts in hand.

Pity we didn't see how the mad scientists do the relaying job on this hand. They stopped in 4S at the other table.

Regards, LM

Hi all,

what about following:

1C-1S

2C-2D(art nmf)

2H-2S

4C = good 6 cards in clubs + Tx in SP + max hand(14-15 points) ?

might work well for bidding the slam

Actually, Fred and my auction might have worked if I had understood better. Our auctions was...

1C-1S

2C-2H

4H-5C

Pass

I took 2H as not forcing, showing hearts, thinking that this would be a 2D bid as well (like the earlier posters). But when Fred pulled my 4H to 5C I took a minute to reconsider. If I could pass 2H's what was 5C's?

Fred seemed to have made a great temporizing bid. Thinking I would take "false" preference back to 2S on a doubleton spade. He probably thought I couldn't bid NT for LACK OF A HEART stopper. Now he bid 5C's. Surely this has to mean his 2H was a strategic bid. Perhaps I should have worked it out.

Too bad everybody assumes SAYC even in a thread about a MOSCITO match.

How about this...modified Tresboof with symmetric relays.

P (14+) - 1C (11+ GF)

1D(relay) - 1S (bal)

1N(relay) - 2D (4+ spades)

2H(relay) - 3C (5332)

3D(relay) - 3N (5 controls)

4C(relay) - 4H (SA/K, HAK or !HAK)

4S(relay) - 4N (DAK or !DAK)

6C

If you do not play Reversal Flannery(thanks to Fred who gave me detalied explanation on this topic), then 1m-1S-2m is very contraversal. This includes

1C-1S-2C-?

1D-1S-2D-?

1D-1S-2C-?

In these cases, without agreement, is 2H forcing? One can always argue that the responder, holding weak 5-4 in majors, wants to find a spot to get out. But then again, most people follow the simple rule of "new suit forcing", or "when in doubt, bid".

Moreover, there are people treat 1C-1S-2C-2D as new minor forcing, hence 1C-1S-2C-2H is non-forcing and simply showing weak 5-4 in majors.

Here is how the Moscito auction went at the PM-sartaj1 table...

I agree with the 2D! = artifical, nmf

[ You need one way to force and others as non-force].

Thus, 2H instead by Responder would be non-forcing showing 5s/4h.

But after 2D! , I agree with the 2H by Opener showing a 5+c/4h as a hand not worthy of a reverse or a 3H-jump ( eventho max for the 2C rebid) since x x x x just barely passes muster as a 4 card suit.

Now, i think Rado covers it best. 2S should be another one round force just in case Opener has 3 cards Sp ( rebidding a 4card H suit is 1st priority), and the 4C-jump bid best shows Opener's "max" hand w/good Cl.

Lifemonster continued best with the 4H! and 4S! cuebids respectively. Now here is where it gets tricky.

After 4S!, if you are playing a European cuebidding system, then 4NT! by Responder ( after 4S) = another Sp cuebid. South ( Opener) then confidently bids 6C knowing his chances are good.
