helene_t
You need to have an agreement with p as to whether pass means that you want to defend 1♠xx, or whether it means that you want partner to choose a suit. In the somewhat similar auction1♠-x-xx-?it is the normal agreement that a pass means that you want partner to choose a suit. But in your auction I would take pass as to play. IN any case, this hand should bid 2♥. You know which contract you want to play so just bid it.

helene_t
What about singleton ♣ and 1 or 2 certain ♠ ticks?Partner is a passed hand so he has no more than 11 points. I think it is too much of a gamble. 1♠ could go down of course, but most likely it will make.
gordontd
What about singleton ♣ and 1 or 2 certain ♠ ticks?I see one certain spade trick and the singleton club doesn't provide another. You have too many hearts to think that passing is best.

helene_t
Ok let's bid 2♥ will you dbl 2♠?No. At matchpoints, one undoubled undertrick will probably already be a good score since they have the majority of the points. At IMPs, it is too dangerous to double them into game unless you are reasonably sure it goes down. So even if I thought it was say 70% likely to go down, I would still pass. And actually I am not convinced that 2♠ goes down more often than not. But it is hard to be objective now we have been told that it actually made 8 tricks :)
sfi
Given that partner is a passed hand and has doubled in the pass-out seat at the one level, I'm not overly enthusiastic about doubling 4S (although I would do so more often than not). Doubling anything less against a South that knows what they are doing seems like I'm trying to punish partner for getting into the auction. rmnka447
There are 2 key issues here. First, how much does your side hold? Partner's hand is a passed hand so give it maybe 11 points max. You have 6 HCP, so you're probably something like 17 HCP max. That gives the opponents something around 23 HCP minimum. It clearly looks like the opponents have the majority of the HCP. with opener's partner passing, it appears that opener has a very good hand. Second, can you beat 1 ♠? Yes, your 2 kings look to be rightly placed to take a couple tricks. But how many tricks do you think your spade suit can take? I'd guess maybe 2 max. So, at most, it looks like you might take 4 tricks. That means partner has to win 3 tricks in order to beat 1 ♠. That's at least doubtful when partner holds less than an opener in front of a big hand. So it looks like you need to bid. 2 ♥ seems like the right call to make. neilkaz
I would only bid 2♥ on days ending in y.
johnu
Ok let's bid 2♥ will you dbl 2♠? Always include the form of scoring. I might take a whack at 4♠ but I can see them making 2♠. Do the math! Partner is a passed hand. How far out of line do you think the opponents are?
