mgoetze
I would double again NV, but here I feel the risk of -200 is too high. Pass.
mr1303
Is 1D anything special, e.g. 4+? But I think I pass regardless.

Fluffy
This time partner had a perfect 3244 and both 4m and 3♠ were making.
ggwhiz
This time partner had a perfect 3244 and both 4m and 3♠ were making. Yeah but you can hardly have less for your first double. The problem most likely is your partners pass over 3♠. You are (almost) a cinch to have a stiff spade but partners hand could easily be marginal as to whether to bid. gszes
P should have a pretty darn good idea what our hand looks like (including the short spade) and if they could not move over 3s trust them. There is really nothing special about this hand other than the short spade, which the bidding has made sort of obvious to partner. Preempts work sometimes. rmnka447
Pass. The preempt has worked. You can't know what partner's hand is except that partner didn't double to show a really big hand. The concern is -200 at the 4 level or possibly off 2 if not doubled. Your LHO has preempted, but Vulnerable it won't be on some ridiculous holding because they have to be concerned about 3 ♠x off 1 for -200 also. If you had white pockets, you'd have less of a problem pushing.
Jinksy
Yeah but you can hardly have less for your first double. Really? Would you pass with x xxxx xxxx Axxx?
mgoetze
Really? Would you pass with x xxxx xxxx Axxx?Well, showing 8 points and then turning up with 4 could be a bit disappointing for partner, don't you think? If I were going to double on this I would probably write something like "rarely have my bid in 3rd seat" on my BBO profile first.
Fluffy
Found the hand record:[hv=pc=n&s=s5h7532d8532cak62&w=sj973haj8dkt76cj5&n=st42hk4daqj4cq843&e=sakq86hqt96d9ct97]399|300[/hv] Opponents need to work on their agreements. Since when does a negative double at the 1 level with primary support for partner's suit show an 8 count? Justin was doubling at the 2-level the other day on a 5-count without a fit for partner. Maybe it has evolved downward since then, Pavlicek now pegs the minimum at 7 points: http://www.rpbridge.net/5a00.htm
broze
Really? Would you pass with x xxxx xxxx Axxx? I'm astounded that this is even controversial. Would double with that in my sleep.
