Ethical Question

Recommended Posts

so me and my Partner whose in his seventies play 2/1 short club and he pretty much always forgets to announce when I open 1c that it can be 2 or whatever so I've taken to pretty much pointing too him when I open 1C so that he announces. There is no chance whatsoever that he would forget we're playing short club, he just forgets to announce so I'm just trying to get him to announce it but I dunno if my fairly obvious gestures are just a common sense approach, it saves everyone a lot of hassle or unethical

thanks

Eagles

ps this isn't at a serious level

The pre-alert would be a good idea; being in one's 70's is not a built-in excuse, for saying "I am an old dog and cannot learn to do new tricks." So best would be to insist that pard stop being lazy and remember to announce it.

Ed would tell us (again) that what is in the rules is ethical, and I believe that doing things which are outside the rules can also be ethical. Whether it might cost you a PP sometime is a different matter.

I don't see anything wrong with the pre-alert, and maybe if partner hears "but he frequently forgets to announce it" enough times it might get into his head that he should announce.

I don't think you need to make some special sort of pre-alert; just include it in your normal system description at the beginning of a round.

You are speaking for a jurisdiction where that is done. There is a distinction without a difference as long as it is done before the round starts.
