You know its not your day when....

Everybody's had results like this.

The only consolation is that maybe next East will hold AKJ and West will hold Q975432.

But one board doesn't a bad session make. If you accept a defeatist attitude, you're doomed. With one of my partners whose very aggressive -- somewhat of a wild man -- I've learned that 5 cold zeros and 8 cold tops with most of the rest above average can be a very good game. So you've just got to keep on playing.

And, of course, there's always the odd game where some more modest players who have trouble bidding games and slams win because there are a bunch of boards where good players are bidding good games and slams that are going off. It's just the fickleness of bridge sometimes.

You realize that Fluffy is a Spanish international player, right? I suspect he did not reach that level with a defeatist attitude after every unlucky board.

Out of interest Gonzalo, did North try an Unusual 3NT over West's 3 opening? Or was it a more mundane auction?

I was actually pair 29 (the one with a mighty +100 when south took north's 4 cuebid on the way to slam as a sing off), I know the pair and I would bet on 4SF after jump shift being natural for only one of them.

Assuming you are talking about the auction starting 1 - 1; 3, bidding the fourth suit (3) seems like a bad idea even if agreed on the meaning! Taking your thread title a little further, you might say that when your opponents manage to end up in 4 going off 2 on a hand like this, you know it is going to be your day! :P
