Need Help to Type Suit Symbols

Recommended Posts

In Word (may depend a little on the version, but the principle is always the same):

On the menu strip go to "Insert".

Then choose "Symbol" from the strip (usually on the far right).

You get a couple of symbols that you can insert. Choose "More symbols".

Now you get a dialogue box with two tabs ("Symbols" and "Special characters"). Choose the "Symbols" tab.

In the dialogue box, choose the "Symbols" font.

Scroll through the symbols with the scroll bar and the suit symbols are somewhere in the middle of the list.

Now, you can insert the symbol.

This is obviously a lot of work to insert one symbol. And as a bridge player, you want to use these symbols often. There is a solution for that.

Instead of inserting the symbol into your text (at the end of the instructions), you can assign a shortcut key combination to the symbol. I have assigned <Ctrl> + <Shift> + "s" to the "" symbol. So every time I press <Ctrl> + <Shift> + "s", Word will insert a spade symbol. (You can guess what my shortcuts for , and are.)

Hi Again,

I just copied symbols in your post.

My job is done.

One of my friends is writing one book on system, which is very sophisticated and for high level partnerships, there are 32 deals and bidding.

I will probably never be playing that system , as I hate too many sequences.

A few years ago I got real ambitious and used a font maker to add suit symbols to a traditional keyboard. Spade symbol was assigned to '[', or whatever. Google for open source freebie font makers. Your new 'bridge fonts' can be used in Word, or most other similar programs. <br><br>Alternatively you could write a Word macro, and even color your fonts if that seems useful.

I know that if you will generate the spade symbol you must do so : Sp is for spade and is put enter squared parenthesis ([..] ) substituing .. and genereting . In the same way He means heart, Di is diamond and finally Cl for club suit. Then you probably must copy and past. I hope this can help, bye.
