Good partner. What would you do now? Feel free to mention if you'd have done something else earlier." Presumably you treat partners's double of 2♥ as penalty although some partnerships might play it as take-out. LHO has advertised 4 ♥s and at least 6 ♠s. I rank your options:1. Double. A suggestion.2. Pass. In case West knows what he's doing.3. 3♦. In pursuit of a plus score. 4. 2N. Although you don't relish East's ♠ lead.5. 3N. In for a penny .... mgoetze
Yes, if partner's double was penalty, which I would suspect it was undiscussed, then double now. If it was takeout, I would have bid 3♦ a round earlier.
rmnka447
I'm also doubling at MPs. You're looking at 8 HCP and partner has shown 15+ HCP BEHIND opener. So your side has the majority of HCP in this hand. But partner doesn't know this. Now's the time to tell him/her.
gszes
Its only 1 board x here. It looks like lho is 64 majors and rho is probably 23 majors. P inability to x 2s means they are heavy favorite to have good minor suit lead and declarer will play hand w/o ever reaching dummy (we hope). Expecting 4M and 2m tricks and maybe 1 more if lucky. Would pass at IMPS

WesleyC
With a 8 HCP and a chunky 5c suit, a lot of people would make a forward going move on the first round. Taking the low road is fine at MPs but now you definitely need to double and protect your score. Declarer should have approximately 6412 and playing the hand without any communication, 8 tricks would be a miracle.
diana_eva
Thanks for the replies. Just a sanity check thread. I was North and my partner doubled. It so happened that 2♠ made, and I wanted to check whether we missed something. I'd also X with his hand FWIW, and thought it was clear to do so. Trinidad
If every time you double they go down your not doubling enough. That is true. However, if every time you double they run to a making contract, you are doubling too much. Rik

An over call tends to be a touch stronger than an opening. As it is, you will go off if they lead a spade and make if they lead a club, which is not unlikely on the layout. If partners spades were KTx that would be enough! As it is pass has worked really well as you are happy to double. It makes because you are very unlucky to have so much concentration in diamonds. I would double all day in this position.
billw55
That is true. However, if every time you double they run to a making contract, you are doubling too much.Indeed. Although in this case, the intent is clearly to double any contract. Also I see that north doubled 2♥ before he knew that south had anything at all. Is this good procedure?
