This hand just came up on BBO, it was the last board of a TM and it didn't particularly matter but I totally fluffed this hand, just interested how I should approach it

My guess: Win A. Run Q. If that wins, then finesse T. If that wins, then run 8, hoping to make 3 x s, 3 x s, 1 x s and 2 x s [/hv]

Surely you just put the K on the heart J and run the Ten. Pretty unthinkable that south has QJ9(x) and played a heart. Its hard to imagine that I will lose more than one trick in every suit at this point. The black suit pip position is really good too. An alternative is to win the heart K and play a spade to the Q. If this holds I can run the spade 9 next, since north cannot profitably attack hearts

I chose to duck and at trick 2 would win the heart ace. We are in big trouble if south has the spade A since they can rise with it and return a dia to make our lives really miserable. That means we almost have to assume N has the spade A and that means our best shot appears to be playing for 3s 3h 1d 2c so trick 3 go with the spade 9 intending to finesse. We are trying to score up tricks while keeping south off lead and this approach gives us a great chance.
