wank
oh dear beautyleg. you might try a little humility. most of the people here are far stronger players than you, having played international representative bridge for example (unlike you, i don't need to trawl through your play records to see that. by the way, as far as i'm concerned, that was a little creepy in the previous thread. the way you see problems in a very basic way makes it obvious you're not as strong a player as you think). Bbo forums are a great tool to learn if you approach it with an open mind. it's obviously right to pass over 1NT. that has no impact whatsoever on our decision whether or not to bid now. we passed over 1nt, because we didn't have a sensible bid to make (good players very rarely overcall kxxxx at the 2 level, especially in a minor). now they've stopped in our void we have the option of doubling and describing our shape nicely. i'd never pass. yes bad things can happen. bad things can always happen. positivity wins imps. emalka
I made a simulation of 100 deals with Deal3.1 hand generator.I gave west 5 spades, 4-5 hearts and 11-16 hcp, east 0-2 spades, 3-4 hearts and 6-9 hcp, north 5 hearts. Doubling or bidding 2NT by South is a clear winner.Bidding 3 clubs/diamonds ( or 5c/d a couple of times ) after 2NT wins on average 1.2 imps/board.There were over twenty double partscore swings and about the same amounttwo imp wins ( +110 vs. +50 ) Doubling might be better, but it will backfire a few times in practice. There are a couple of mistakes here. Partner could have four hearts, and he could even have six.
