eagles123
I thought this was fairly automatic but interested in opinions of course!
gszes
pass On average, we do not rate to make 5c so the downside potential is quite large, I like to strain to bid when short in opps suits but the colors just put too much risk in play for me.

BillPatch
If they are sound bidders and we overcall we will probably be -500 to -1100 versus -420 to -480. If they are overbidding and we overcall, we might be -200 to -500 versus +50. If partner has the big hand and hears an overcall, we will be lucky to be down 2 doubled in slam versus down 2 our way defending 4 ♥. An overcall is losing bridge. A TO double at this level promises a good 15 hcp. Pass is the only bridge action possible.
neilkaz
OK I have a hand that can open a preemptive 3♣ at these colors although I suspect some might want an even better suit. WTP?..I surely can't bid 5♣ or X here.
Phil
Wouldn't occur to me.
MrAce
Agree with Rowland, auto pass!
PhilKing
This is a totally clear pass. At these colours, if you changed the hand to: ♠A43♥9♦K5♣AJ98654 I would still pass.
Jinksy
Here's a follow-up question: [hv=pc=n&w=sa82h64daj87cqt32&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=4h]133|200[/hv] Is there any reason to find a (takeout) X as West?
PhilKing
Here's a follow-up question: [hv=pc=n&w=sa82h64daj87cqt32&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=4h]133|200[/hv] Is there any reason to find a (takeout) X as West? When partner has all that we still need clubs and diamonds to come in to make game. The acid test in this kind of situation is to switch the West and North hands and see what would have happened. In this instance we would go for 800 or so.
apollo1201
Who said that preempts do work, and that's why opps do it?
