What's your bid?

I was playing a robot tournament with GIB this evening, and came across this interesting hand. IMP's. NS are vulnerable.

After North opens 1, what do you bid? Do you show your hearts right away, or just jump raise in clubs? Or something else?

I'd start with 1. You do have the best hand at the table, right?

even better if you don't :P

More seriously, the purpose of the 1 response isn't, or isn't primarily, to find a fit. It would be very nice to do so, since on a 3-2 heart break, we are scoring a lot of tricks if we can pull trump.

We need to try to figure out as much as we can about partner's hand, and we won't be planning on doing it by trying to describe our freak. So bid 1 and await developments (even if LHO bounces in spades, we can compete in clubs later, and partner won't usually hang us by preferring hearts on his 4=3=3=3 12 count).

I don't play against or with robots, but I have seen my wife do so, and of course GIB bidding is appalling, so what I suggested here is intended to reflect playing with someone or something that knows how to bid, which may exclude GIB

3, if this shows a cuebid with , otherwise

2 (inverted).

Here we might stay under slam if P has less than 2 Aces.

If I bid it will be difficult to convince P, that my are supersuperb.

We might lose a fit, but I prefer the 7-2 fit opposite the 4-4. I have so much to ruff.

The risk that both slams are makeable, I have to bear.

The main point against is that P may have xx, but I cannot defend itself against any possibility.

The advantage of finding a 4-4 or 4-3 heart fit is that it makes finding the Q much easier later.

I do not know the robot system so take any advice here with half a grain of salt. I would be very worried about lho starting to make some serious preemptive noise and IMHO IF we are playing inverted minors I much prefer getting that suit in (bidding 2c now) the bidding and worrying about a heart fit later because I do not want p pushing later with 3 card heart support. If we are forced to play at the 5+ level it may easily be right to do so in clubs rather than hearts anyway. If there is no serious preemptive action then we have plenty of time to explore for a 44 heart fit. If not playing inverted minors I would have to bid 1h and hope.

And that it's probably the only way we have to stop at the five level later if we keycard ask and P shows up with 1.

That swings it for me. If I do have system that allows me to do so even with clubs agreed as trumps I'll bid 2. If not, 1.

If 2h is strong and gf, I will try that.

option2 is make a gf bid in clubs, whatever that is.

A 7411 doesn't provide any pitches double dummy, this hand should play any slam in clubs unless MPs.
