dkham
Having ♣A76 means its unlikely partner has a good hand with long Clubs (and so was unable to bid).
mikeh
I think we have to pass, since balancing at imps at the 3-level, in this situation, should be about finding a game if possible, and we have real reason to fear that game isn't possible. We cannot double since we risk a 4-2 or bad 5-2 major suit fit, and certainly can't double then pull a major, at any level to diamonds, without suggesting a MUCH stronger hand. Bidding 3♦ on this suit and hand will make it difficult to reach 3N when it is right: catch partner with AKx in diamonds and a side A, and there is little chance he can bid 3N. Meanwhile, 11 tricks in diamonds is a long way away. Opener rates to hold a decent suit for a 1st seat red pre-empt, and may well have an entry. xxx Ax x KQ109xxx is a clear 3♣ call in my books. Thus 3N by us is a huge gamble. As against that, this may be a misfit hand with RHO sitting with a stack and very short clubs. AQxx QJxxx AJ10x void is a hand on which one passes smoothly, dreaming of a balance :D I never advise passing out of fear, if there is a plausible upside, but this one has little upside and seems like a clear pass.
Phil
I'd bid 3♦. One of the reasons partner didn't bid over 3♣ is because he's got three himself. I don't want to give up on 3N when I have a hand this good.
mike777
pass clear cut I have a bad hand.
NickRW
I'd pass at IMPs. Game seems too unlikely to me. At MPs there is at least a case for 3♦ imo, though I'd be hoping pard doesn't do anything rash.
P_Marlowe
3D We all prefer to have a better suit.
PhilKing
You could sell me a 3♦ overcall against opponents who play weak preempts in the minors (a style I strongly disagree with at these colours). But against most people I would pass. If I bid 3♦ and follow through with 3NT over 3M, I will make it a superficially sufficient amount of the time, but the problem is that when I do go down, it will often be by four or five tricks. :(
1eyedjack
but the problem is that when I do go down, it will often be by four or five tricks. :( Not to forget the possibility of a double. If West's pass was borderline this is not going to be pretty.
